Let's see now: 22 fouls on EACH team and 26 free throws attempted by EACH team. Now I'm not a defender of officials but that seems pretty damned fair to me. Yes, I saw the missed call when Meeks' was obviously out of bounds and a jump ball was called. There's no certainty that Gonzaga would have scored and I'll bet a dime to a green assed fly that if you look hard enough you'll find other "missed" calls. I guess this is a case of whose ox is being gored. UNC won the game and that'll be reflected in history. Congrats to Gonzaga for a fantastic seascon and, yes, they will be remembered for their season.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

As long as the fouls are even it's a fair called game. Let me make sure to notate that

All anyone can expect from the officials is consistency. If it's a foul at one end, it's a foul at the other. It's up to the players to adapt to the whistles. The really good players understand that. The really good coaches understand that too. The great coaches work the officials during the game in order to create doubt in the refs mind. The ref who ignores those coaches are the better refs.

Refs are human. They make mistakes.
Coaches are human. They make mistakes.
Players are human. They make mistakes.

Capiche.

That was one of the worse officiated championship games. The refs took the players out of the game, literally. I think they need to revisit how the games should be called. Otherwise guys like Calimari will get their wish for a 6th foul. The flagrant foul against the big guy was a joke just like in the women's game. It could have changed the whole outcome of the game. This is a rant against refereeing in general not just last night.

I have no idea how anyone can defend that crap. The game has become an absolute joke.

If there is a preconceived notion by the officials to keep the number of fouls even then that itself is a travesty. Basketball is like boxing, one team is usually the aggressor. One team usually "lands" more blows. Call the game as the rules are written regardless of when and what score and disregard who is the home team and who is the visitor. That in itself is consistency.

Agree wholeheartedly. If someone looks at the total fouls called against each team for an indicator of how fairly the game was called then that shows real ignorance of the sport. Actually not just this sport but any sport.

100% agree with that.

Being consistent with the calls is all we can hope for, and should be the #1 thing refs strive towards.
