First Congrats to Michigan.
This wasnt a championship team, however felt they had enough to get to Phoenix or the elite 8

The defense was the undoing. Good job taking away their 3s. Poor man to man defense.

To many 3 point attempts. They couldnt stop Mangok. Q should have moved in instead of jacking up so many 3s. He's a junior. He should have known better.

Team was just to nice, with some softies. They needed to be mean and nasty during tourney time.

Good season with all the inexperience.

Again congrats to the Maize and blue !

Couldn't have said it better, KR. Most of us have seen the various seeds of today's performance throughout the year.

I'm mad.

I'm tired of dumb friggin basketball. On the bench, and the court. From the bench I mean, if they don't do what you tell them SIT THEM DOWN.

Before you say "they're young", most of our clock goes to guys who've played in at least 60 games.

If they haven't learned how to hold a lead by now, I don't look for them to ever learn. Maybe some of the incoming talent can teach them as they watch from the bench.

I agree this team never developed and has a very poor BB IQ. That coupled with their just to darn nice, no killer instinct. We need several with the attitude of Montrez on this team. I want players who hate losing. I'm sure they want to win but there's a difference between wanting to win and hating to lose.

They blew large and semi-large leads all season. Nothing new.
Coach Pitino's substitution pattern was bad today.
I was mad at the 09,10,11,14 tourney losses. Not today.

I'm disappointed because I knew this was going to be the hardest game up until the elite 8. Michigan reminds me of the 2012 Cards. That year we were mostly mediocre then got hot and went to the final 4.

We won't win a championship without better point guard play. That's as nice as I can put it.

I thought the D was as good in the 1st half as at any time this season.Tbs,they adjusted and we didn't.

Or better defense.

Very disappointed in the defense all season.

Yeah. The past couple of seasons, despite what some metrics say, I haven't felt the team has had that special lock down defense of years past. It just isn't there- at least not all the way.

Going back to the thread subject, I have to say I wasn't overly surprised or angry after this loss. I knew it was a very real possibility. Michigan won the B1G Tourney beating some legit teams along the way. They had gelled and are on a hot winning streak.

Coaching wise, I'm most disappointed in Pitino mainly in two aspects today. He never adjusted for the switch on Wagner. I was watching the whole time thinking- are they just going to let him keep scoring at will? I guess so. The second thing was waiting too long to put Mangok back in in the second half. Stayed with Anas too long. Mangok probably should've started the second half because he was killing it in the first. They had no answer for him.

I was disappointed but not surprised. Never solved the Michigan big man. He took advantages of the switches and even hit a 3. Michigan seemed to take advantage of every mistake we made on defense.

I agree with one of the posters above that Snider had a really bad offensive game. Missed every shot and just didn't seem to be able to get much done at all. Hicks actually played pretty well. But we needed Snider to have a good game and Michigan just completely shut him down.

I hope that Odel and Mitchell realize it's too early and they aren't ready for the NBA. Both need at least one more year in my view. If they come back and with our recruiting class, we should be a powerhouse next year.

Oh, and I think Mango played a really good game today. He never turned into another Gorgi but he was tough and we would not have been close today without him.

I just dont see how it works out if Mitchell and Adel both stay. King will only see the bench and with a whole offseason to work, he should be starting next year. I see Adel leaving before Mitchell though.

We have too much depth down low to play 4 guards and rotate bigs. Too many people wont see the court.

...And the team has to understand what's working.

Could not possibly agree more with this. This was a glaring issue all season, especially after taking a sizable lead. Pitino said this team didn't really talk and communicate on the floor. Not sure how much that led to the other, but it is something that needs to be addressed with next years team for sure. It is one of the main things that kept this team from being really good.

If they can correct this, along with a couple other things, next season then the sky may be the limit. This team could put leads on and compete with almost everyone not named Virginia. The problem was keeping the leads and going away from what was working. With most of the team back next season, if they shore up these few things, I think they can have a special year.

We dominated Michigan by pounding it inside the first half. Second half, everyone settled for jumpers and contested 3-pointers. I knew we were in trouble when Adel missed a couple of jumpers but keep calling for the ball. Going inside has the double benefit of easy scoring and putting Michigan's big guys in foul trouble. This will limit their aggressiveness at the end of the game. That said, we have no answer for Wagner. If we have one big guy like Wagner on our team, we have a NC team.

Seems like every loss is because we end up settling for jumpers. Duke game 4-21 behind the arc. Today, 5-20. When both games we were dominant inside. I dont understand it.

Anyways, I'm just ready for the preseason polls to come out and all of the articles hyping up Louisville.

Same here. Disappointed.

Agree 100% about today and Coach Pitino. He had the perfect game plan working in the 1st half running Michigan off the 3 line. It was masterful and the guys were executing to near perfection. The Cards played some of the best D they have played all year in the 1st half. I thought they blew a few easy ones around the basket and probably should of had a 12 to 15 point lead going into halftime, but that's basketball.

Michigan adjusted and the Cards were countering well for the first 5 minutes or so of the 2nd half on the inside like they had been doing all game, but they went away from that and things started to unravel slowly from there. I know Mango had 2 fouls, but Pitino rode with Anas entirely too long. We will never hear it, but I'm sure he is second guessing himself for that.

All that said, this had to be one of the more frustrating Cards teams to watch all year. I've said it several times and I'll say it again here... All the players on this team seem like really nice guys, but appear to be way to quiet and lacking some level aggressiveness (less Mango and JJ).

Pitino struggled all year with who to start at the 4 and sometimes the 5 spot as JJ and Ray were inconsistent from game to game. Mango really came on well late in the year and was playing some great basketball.

I still feel left wondering if Hicks had gotten more PT he could have produced more for this team, but I trust that Pitino knows his team much better than a message board poster. Just really not sure what the deal was with Hicks.

In the end, I'm not sure this team really improved from the beginning of the year to the end as we have become accustomed to seeing with typical Pitino teams. Regardless of what we all think, Pitino is a defensive minded coach. That's his coaching philosophy and it's been a staple for Cardinals basketball since he's been here. It's not going to change anytime soon. This team never fully got it on the defensive end like most of Pitino's teams and that was one of the more frustrating things to watch all year.

All the things we talked about came back to bite them today. Inconsistency, inability to hold onto a lead, inability to finish at the rim, inability to execute and make good decisions in crunch time, inability to communicate and talk on defense... I could go on.

This team will be better next year and will hopefully build on this experience. These guys need to work on their games in the off-season and come back motivated and ready to get work. Cards should be a top 5 team to start the season next year.

Disappointed.

Truth.

Took more 3 point shot than Michigan. Unbelievable

Heard comments from Snider and Mitchell about 3 point shooting the other day. They talked about NBA guys being able to launch from beyond the line and seemed like it's what they see themselves as.

It's becoming cool to be able to shoot it deep.At least to them it is.

If they get defensively, Pitino will run 10 to 12 guys and play the style he really wants to play.

This year was a big learning experience for this team. Hopefully next year this team will benefit from these little things they did wrong that cause them to lose close games.

Didn't read all the responses, but I do agree with the OP. I'm disappointed but not mad too. I didn't think this team had all the necessary cogs to be a national champ machine but I did think they could win a couple, or maybe 3 games and gain much needed posted season experience. That's the disappointing part. Going 1-2 in the post season. That stings and stinks.

Always next year, and being a Cardinals fan, the college basketball season might be over, but now we can focus on a great baseball team, and then after that, another exciting college football season to experience with the Heisman trophy winner coming back to lead the Cards.

It's never the off season when you're L1C4.

Go CARDS!!!
