LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After missing out on the NCAA Tournament in the last two seasons, the Louisville baseball program has made their triumphant return to the Big Dance.

The Cardinals (35-21) were selected as a No. 2 seed for the 2025 NCAA Tournament, and were assigned to the Nashville Regional, where No. 1 overall national seed Vanderbilt (42-16) is the host team. The two faced off in the annual Battle of the Barrel rivalry matchup back on May 6, with Louisville winning 5-4 at Jim Patterson Stadium.

No. 3 regional seed East Tennessee State (41-15) and No. 4 Wright State (38-19) round out the paring for the Nashville Regional. All three other teams in the Regional punched their ticket to the Big Dance by winning their conference tournament, with the Commodores winning the SEC, the Buccaneers capturing the SoCon and the Raiders winning the Horizon.

Pretty amazing they remained the two seed in the Vandy Regional, where they were long projected to be. Time to hit reset and let it rip.
Interesting how they seem to love the Vandy/U of L matchup.... So a couple of weeks ago, we were matched up with Vandy in their regional but they were the 6th overall seed. So as they had an outstanding SEC tournament and other SEC teams fell down the ladder, they moved up eventually to the overall #1 seed. In the meantime, we dropped, initially being a pretty decent #2 seed but now it looks like we were considered the lowest rank #2 seed/borderline #3 seed. It just shows you how the NCAA is heavily influenced on potential matchup scenarios/possibilities.

Does anyone have any knowledge about Parker Detmers' condition and/or possibility of returning for this post season?

On another note, I was thinking about the pitching rotation for this weekend. I have to believe we're going save Forbes for a potential game 2 scenario with Vandy, maybe opening with Eberle.🤔

Never know but the extra rest might be just what the pitching staff needed

Don’t see any scenario that Detmers factors in. I’d start Michael or Eberle.
Yeah, if he hasn't pitched before now, I don't see him pitching now. If its one of those situations where he decided not to have surgery and just rehabilitate that's one thing but to just wait until postseason play to test it out, is something else. Might make me lose more confidence in our pitching coach than what I have now.

This is just me but if I'm a 1 seed, I could see not pitching my ace first game. However, if I am a 2, 3 or 4 seed, you're playing with fire if you don't start your best pitcher. Having said that, who is clearly our best pitcher, is it Eberle a young freshman who has done well but will be under tremendous pressure or is it our veteran, Forbes, who may still not be 100%,

Don't think it will be Michael. He hasn't pitched since Bellarmine on 5/13. Something is up with him.

Fwiw
E Tennessee St's top 3 homerun hitters have 52 of that total above ^^

All 3 are right handed hitters. Maybe we go with Forbes? Or possibly Michael has gotten his issues straightened out?

ETSU hitting solo HRs will not beat this UL team, but walking those batting in front of them sure will.

This UL team is very good defensively; avoiding giving up free passes and making ETSU hitters swing will be key.

I think if we can go down to Nashville and win one game it will be an accomplishment for this squad. Going to Nashville and knocking off Vandy and winning the regional would be a miracle. Hoping for a miracle !

Now let's figure out how to get our pitching lineup to get us ready to get past ETSU and ready for Vandy

Im wondering if Mac would think about starting Biven against ETSU?
That’s a thought! And, a pretty good thought. He has experience and could give the team 4-5 innings (if he is on). Maybe be able to go random pen guys from there is the bats are alive.

With a truly healthy Pike and Klein returning, and assuming Alecia’s thumb has healed sufficiently, this would represent the best condition this team has been all year. While I have no expectation that Detmers will return for Nashville, there is no updated information that would preclude that remote possibility?

If Detmers was going to pitch at some point I would think Dan would have put him in a game at some point. I just don't think you wait until you're facing elimination to put in someone who hasn't face live batters in what 3 months? Plus, he's Parker Detmers not Reid. He only pitched in like 4 games, 1-1. I get it, good chance he's better than what we have now. Can Dan take the chance of a setback to Parker who has been trying to get healthy all year to possibly go to Omaha?

I saw this in a recent Sports Illustrated article released on May 27th:

Right-handed pitcher Parker Detmers was pushing to make a postseason return, but has been shelved for the 2025 season.
