In truth Bardman, you are in good company here; as most of us have expressed our sincere disappointment at one time or another this season with individual players, specific aspects of this team as well as low tournament expectations. Yesterday was another example of how this team can turn itself around on occasion. I am very proud of UL Baseball right now, and hoping for another good effort tonight.
One observation; I witnessed something that I have not seen before that could have made the difference between Vandy surviving yesterday, or finding itself in the loser’s bracket. While I believe the Vandy 2 run homer was likely a fair ball; Wright State was the victim of a very strange decision by the umpires ; specifically when the one umpire immediately called the ball foul, before the other umpires congregating together to change the call to fair, prior to a subsequent review. It was almost like they knew that whatever was called before the review, would be very difficult to overturn on review.
Again, it appeared it was a fair ball for a HR; but I do not recall ever witnessing the umpire meeting privately to over-rule the call on the field, particularly knowing it was going to be officially reviewed as the Vandy player immediately requested the official review. Beating Vanderbilt at home is not an easy task, even without the assistance of an umpire crew.
