So far, this is Jeff Walz's weakest team in memory. They're allowing Morehead State to score at will. Defense is non existent.

This is definitely a rebuilding season. I wonder if the Cards make the NCAA tournament? I hope I'm wrong being so pessimistic but there's going to have to be loads of improvement.

Imari Berry is the best player and she doesn't start.

Some players do better coming off the bench than they do when they start. I was expecting more from Cochran, Harris and Russell. It seems as though they have taken a step backwards. I am not ready to write the season off yet because we looked really good against a really good UCLA team.

First game back for Jada. It will taker some time to get up to speed, but backcourt should be better. Unfortunately, Jeff has as difficult of schedule to play in a long time.

3point shooting showed some improvement last night. Jeff is playing a lot of the kids and spreading the minutes out more than I can recall in the past.

There is more than enough talent to make the tourney. They are very young and it shows. They look ‘clunky’ right now. Defensive help is slow to react. They will improve.
- CJW kept Cochran, Harris and Russell on the bench a lot last night. Why? We were playing better w/on them.
-Imani’s play is very effortless and she is just good. Once she catches up to the speed of college bb and can maintain her intensity all the time - dang, she will be deadly.
-Hardy has hops! I would love to see her and Imafidon (spl?) get some clock just to harass the other team’s center for a few minutes and alter a few shots.
-Elif and Ilsa - not high flyers or super athletic and they need to quicken their game a bit. BUT, they understand basketball and we play well with them on the court.

Excellent analysis Bardman!
The aforementioned upper class players returned this year, for whatever reasons, have not played any where close to the sort of consistent and effective performances that Jeff expected.

The fact that all 3 returned to UL, tells me they want to contribute; a mystery as to why they each appear to have receded.

Yes I saw that Koz; and we played UCLA even for the greatest portion of our contest with them.

I did not see our game at USF, but witnessed the “play by play”. We were up by 10, before USF closed it in the final 4 minutes, and they even took a one point lead in the last minute.

USF’s Brito is 5’11” tall but had 10 rebounds, and the tallest starter on USF was a 6’1” guard. Nyla and Olivia each had 9 rebounds, but it begs the question as to why we cannot dominate the inside in those few times when we have huge size advantage?

The Cards don't dominate inside because neither Cochran or Harris are strong finishers and neither jump more than a few inches off the ground.

Neither have a knack for scoring inside because neither have many post play moves. Cochran has always wanted to play more on the perimeter and Harris is just not athletic enough.

And Walz can't seem to recruit an inside scoring threat. He has to go overseas and get two even less athletic post players.

This team is mostly just short guards. There's no athletic wing players he had during most of his success here.
