I know this guy is a sleaze bucket and he deserves every bad thing that comes his way. However, I sure do hope all that information he has regarding Nike paying basketball players to go to certain schools is made public.
The Feds obviously want the info first. Long way to go in this one...I know this guy is a sleaze bucket and he deserves every bad thing that comes his way. However, I sure do hope all that information he has regarding Nike paying basketball players to go to certain schools is made public.
My guess is they have everything he has already. The Feds obviously want the info first. Long way to go in this one...
I think it takes more than just proof. You also have to figure out how to make up for the lost revenue if you take down a major cash cow in collegiate sports. Since that's basically impossible, the cash cows are protected. The people who know crime the best are the criminals.
They often flip or snitch on their competitors to eliminate them or get a leg up.
He could be a viable witness, even though he committed a crime.
We all know Bama football, Duke and SuCkS basketball are buying players. Just have to get proof.
I should have been more careful in my wording. My guess is they have everything he has already.

I'm all for that personally. There is so much freaking money being made now by these high profile, major D1 programs that the players who go to those programs deserve to be paid something other than a free scholarship. Hell, there's enough money going around for all division 1, 2, and 3 to have payrolls.None of this would be an issue if the players got paid. EVERYONE , the High School coach, AAU coaches, trainers, College Coaches, administrators AND parents are getting paid.
I'll paraphrase a quote from Chris Webber ;
" as i was walking past the bookstore , i saw my jersey with name on the back on sale for $75. It pissed me off because i wouldnt see a dime of any of the proceeds."
That’s what makes this story a possible ‘much more than meets the eye at first’ scenario. How does any attorney get caught on tape bribing Nike especially now? How does that even happen? He has to have something to warrant risking being thrown into jail and a $25 million price tag....right?
The question is does his client know how Nike hid the payments. Once, if ever, that is figured out ever Nike program will be exposed or vulnerable.
This idiot even got off the phone after making initial threats and let nike call him back. Well of course they recorded the call back and got him to go into full extortion mode. How does any attorney get caught on tape bribing Nike especially now? How does that even happen? That isn't true at all. Most programs, almost all in fact, already lose money. Very few operate in the black and most who do give money back to the general scholarship fund or building projects for the university.I'm all for that personally. He says he has receipts and text showing payments if that is the case that is officially a problem for many people. This idiot even got off the phone after making initial threats and let nike call him back. Well of course they recorded the call back and got him to go into full extortion mode.
I was kind of looking forward to hearing what he had to say but it seems his well isn’t very deep after all.

Nonsense. I'm talking about the NCAA itself making BILLIONS off these kids. They could bankroll every single athletic department in the country to pay these kids what they're owed. The whole system as it stands is pure corruption. That isn't true at all. Most programs, almost all in fact, already lose money. Yeah and if they only sold 2 jerseys, I’ll give him $150. Who wants the jersey of a guy who didn’t realize they were out of timeouts and cost his team a NC?

Probably. Him and around 10,000 other guys and girls.Do you think this guy tapped him some Stormy?

It’s a tough situation. I agree with you. I just don’t think it’s feasable to pay everyone across the board. I’d be in favor of allowing any college athlete to be in independent contractor and I think that’s where it will eventually head.I don't like the idea of paying players at all, but it's hard to argue against people not controlling the rights to their own likeness.
The NCAA has revenue of about 1B each year and disperses roughly 850M to member schools. Almost all of the rest is spent on overhead. Even after that disbursement, the vast majority of programs lose money each year. This really isn't in dispute.Nonsense. I'm talking about the NCAA itself making BILLIONS off these kids. Rare total agreement.Don't like the idea of paying college players. The last thing I enjoy watching is paid athletes esp. overpaid ones. I'd rather watch less talented players who don't deserve money but will bust their a$$es to someday deserve it...
Ditto. Let’s kot forget the value of their scholarship. That’s payment enough. I worked 3 jobs while in college just to afford microwave pizza.Rare total agreement.

Work? No. Play games? Yes.The cost of their scholarship no one equates into the money they generate.
Take the money away from all, then youll have a pure product.
No of you work for free.

Didn't say they didn't blow the money on something else. I don't know the exact numbers and I'm too lazy to research it, but I still believe the kids deserve more than just a free ride. I know that isn't cheap but it pales in comparison to the money that is made off the fruits of THEIR labor. The kids deserve more. The NCAA has revenue of about 1B each year and disperses roughly 850M to member schools. Almost all of the rest is spent on overhead. Prisoners are working, not playing. If some sort of legislation tried to force it then schools should simply shut down their programs. Pretty simple. Student-athletes are not employees and a very few of the 5000+ kids on D1 teams would be at the level to justify paying to begin with. Let pros be pros, this is amateur sports, intended for amateur players.Even prisoners get paid for their work.
The players need to boycott until they pass legislation that ensures them of compensation.
Well, lets get our numbers straight so we're on the same page. Is the B staying to cover NCAA costs or being disbursed to member schools?OK, I lied. I wasn't too lazt to research it. The NCAA made 1.1 billion in 2018. Lets say for grins and giggles that the 'non profit' organization needed the .1 billion to cover costs. Fair enough? Again all hypothetical. Lets estimate (OK let's not, this is the actual number) 1,268 North American institutions who take care of 480,000 student-athletes.
Each of the 1,268 institutions would get $788,643 from the NCAA. That money could pay the athletes who MAKE money for the NCAA. Obviously someone on the swim team isn't going to generate money for the NCAA. Someone on the football team would. It could be a nice chunk of change. Just saying.

But, just to hear you out, what are you intending to pay them with?
Ok but what money are you paying them with?Amateur LoL.
Your labor is generating BILLIONS yearly.
Games are for free.
The only hold up is Title IX. Equal distribution to the Womens sport even though they dont generate anything close to the Men. They to also deserve to get paid.
I would have to do research. Im sure someone slready has.
It is not labor, as has been repeatedly decided by courts.Amateur LoL.

I'm not a fan of that either because it's just a way deep pocket boosters will buy players.Paying the players.........no. If you pay a point guard then you will also have to pay a female gymnast. Not feasible. Scholarship athletes are already receiving a free education worth $100,000 plus. Not to mention they get their meals payed for and get free gear and shoes. It’s not like they are forced into slave labor.
I’ve said before I am in favor of allowing them to become independent contractors of sorts which allows them to profit from their likeness and sign shoe deals etc. those that can make money on their name can and the ncaa should not be the one who has to pay them.
He started last night.Well, Avanatti is out on bail so I guess it's just a matter of time before he hits all the media circuits to tell his story.
