What is louisvilles signature win this year?
It is true Louisville has a lack of big signature wins but that criteria should only prevent them from having a 3 seed or better. There's other factors that should have gotten them at least a 5 seed.
Five of the seven losses came before December 14th and they all came against ranked and now tournament teams. Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Kentucky and Duke. Louisville lost two key players including one starter to season ending injury before they played four of those teams.
But they turned it around and won 22 out of their last 24 games, defeating Clemson twice and UNC by 14 points. They not just beat teams they destroyed most of them, winning five times by 20 points on the road.
They did this with basically playing just seven guys as injuries continued to happen. Cards had to play in the ACC tournament without their top 3 point shooter in Reyne Smith, and they still beat Clemson and led Duke at halftime before running out of gas.
There's supposed to be more than just one metric the NCAA committee looks at when picking seeds. Louisville looked the part of a 4 or 5 seed in all but one and that was signature wins which they only have two.
So the committee punished Louisville with an 8 seed because of it. Now if they had made them a 6 seed it would still be too low of a seed, but the Cards would be facing a 11 seed and not a 1 seed in the 2nd round. I think most people would have accepted that without too much of a complaint.
But an 8 seed was a total diss by the committee and I believe was done on purpose. The committee leader is a UNC alum and the Tar Heels made the tournament with a 1 and 12 record in quad 1 games. If Louisville and UNC switched resumes, UNC wouldn't be a 8 seed but a 4 seed and Louisville wouldn't have been picked for the field of 68.
This is why we're so pissed. It's obvious and clear disrespect.
