I'm disappointed. So many new, exciting teams that UL has never played before and we get the one team we've already played and have played like 10 times in the last 4 years. I'm tired of playing Vandy.

That's how the bracket worked out though.

I'm glad it's Vandy rather than Indiana. We've had some success against Vandy -- and Indiana has had our number lately.

Gotta win this first one!! Gonna be a blast!

College baseball is different from basketball/football. The money per program and the fan travel is not the same therefor being matched up in the post season with regional teams is the norm. Ergo, Vandy'UofL in same regional and even uk/ UofL in same regional. Its actually one of the reasons college baseball doesn't build distant rivalries but is also why it builds such strong regional non conference rivalries.

Not me... I love puttin' a smackdown on any SEC team in any sport. Bring on the 'Dores...

I hope Vandy comes in playing as sloppy as they played yesterday. That game was ugly! I like our chances in that one. They have great pitchers but their hitting isn't that good. They scored a bunch of runs yesterday on a Stanford pitching staff that was spent and some errors/bad decisions. I think if they don't score 5 in the top of the 1st, Stanford wins that game. You get a lead on Vandy and they put their heads down. Just get the early lead and they will make some mistakes. And it's going to be TOUGH to beat Funk.

The Vandy rivalry has become one of the better college rivalries in the sport. There is no down side. The sheer numbers of incredible pitchers and players Vandy has supplied the Bigs since Corbin got there is out of this world. Mike Minor, Sonny Gray, David Price, just to name a few. Matt Kemp on the offensive end.

They respect the crap out of us for all the best reasons and vice versa. This is the perfect start to the College World Series - two deserving and hungry as hell programs, resuming a heated rivalry.

It doesn't get any better than this.

Senore2006 is correct that it doesn't get any better than this and that there is much well-deserved respect for Louisville baseball.

This will be a particularly tough game for me to watch since I attended both schools and am an all-the-way Cards fan when they aren't playing Vandy.

P.S. - and, off topic, I'll add that I can't wait for Petrino to throttle the Cats. And, we'll do our best to keep them winless in the SEC for yet another year or two.

Matt Kemp of Dodgers fame did not play at Vandy. They had a Kemp last year but I think his name is Tony. Pedro Alvarez the Pirates 3B played at Vandy. Your point is valid that they have sent some top notch players at us in the past 6-7 years.

The Vandy-Louisville rivalry has been great over the last few years. Each team has won some big games and broken the other team's heart -- Louisville last year in the Super Regional at Vandy, Vandy in 2010 in the Regional at Louisville. A few years ago there was also a regular season 16 inning game that was one of the best games I ever witnessed -- each team kept coming back, leap-frogging each other in the score. I think there was one of the early extra innings when Louisville scored 4 times to take the lead only to have Vandy come back and score 4 in the bottom of the inning. The game ended on a dramatic walk-off home run.

In any event, I would have preferred the two teams meet in the finals but opening with each other should provide a lot of excitement.
