Carroll, Thomas J. Sr.,

93, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016. He was a native of Louisville, Kentucky and a graduate of St. Xavier High School, class of 1940 and the University of Louisville Speed Scientific School.

He served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II making three invasions in with the bomb disposal division. He retired from Akzo-Nobel Coatings (formerly Reliance Universal) after 41 years of service.

Tom was selected to the University of Louisville Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991. He played football, baseball and ran track at U of L. He and his wife received the Hickman-Camp Award given for support and voluntarism to Athletic's at U of L. He was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was a charter member of Hurstbourne Country Club where he played golf for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and May Carroll; brother, Donald and sister, Pat Carroll.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Blanche Ware Carroll; children, Thomas J. Jr. (Lisa), Michael W. (Anne), Catherine Carroll Purvis (Dean) of Charlotte, N.C. and James W. (Amy) of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren, Thomas J. III (Abby), Malisa, Andrew, Nelson and Delaney Carroll and April and Andrew Purvis; sister Doris McKiernan and sister-in-law, Anna Flaherty.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Cherrywood Road with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road "In St. Matthews".

Expressions of Sympathy would be welcome to The Society of St. Vincent dePaul or the University of Louisville Student Athletic Scholarship Fund
