He uses the same method Mack used the blanket method cast out alot of offers. It has it's pros' and con's . Most coaches say the lata . Not a fan of the style it can turn off recruits. Kids these days like to feel they are your #1 priority and also the parents.

These kids are unpredictable and want $ and maybe some promises. I'm pretty sure Payne showed Flowers, his family, and whoever else from his camp tons of feels. Maybe not letting the guy be PG was a problem. What we know is the guy actually showed up for the summer but still went overseas and got more $ than whatever he got here. Not trying to dog Payne it's more about the landscape these HC's have to work within. That kid dicking Payne probably ended the Payne era. I admit, that's just a very mild opinion. But anyway....

Mack had the #7 class his 2nd year and the #12 class his final year per this site. He was only here 3.5 years. He pulled off those results after inheriting major issues. Pretty good without NIKE. If you can coach you can win with those type of classes, unless you run into a lot of problems off the court. It's also fair to wonder how he could have done without all the noise. So maybe the Mack method isn't so bad.

But Mack's era is just totally different than this. There wasn't the portal factor then that there is now. And of course, there wasn't the legal free market $ for the services back then either.

It's pretty much about the $ now, and all these other variables that used to matter in the past don't matter nearly as much now.

I don't see how other recruits can be turned off by any Louisville recruiting news when Louisville hasn't signed one single player yet for 2025.

Nowadays, you need the cache of a Duke, Bill Self, or Dan Hurley to pull that off. The program and/or the coach have to have a level of awe to them - and sadly PK nor UofL has that right now. If you only focus on 5-6 guys and then Alabama or UConn or some of these programs with massive budgets and big-name coaches come in at the last minute with an offer they can't refuse, then UofL is screwed.

Currently, UofL has to cast a wide net and try to find the kids that they can hold the attention of. It seems to me that PK obviously values talent, but he's looking for a specific sort of mentality and fit. You have to check all of the boxes, and if that's your system, you have to sit down with a lot of recruits and figure out who checks those boxes. If you only care about talent, you figure out who the most talented is pretty easily.

PK didn't luck into a scenario where two top 50 kids fell into his lap or come to a program that had been the #1 destination for 1 and done talent for 15 years. He came to a broken program that hasn't been anything more than a punch line for 2 years and not relevant for 3-4 years.

Sorry to say but Kelsey hasn't coach a game yet besides exhibitions. Nowadays, kids want instant proof of success. Fans can buy into it, players are a different story. They want to see results.

We just had a top 10 recruit and one of the top 2 point guards in. On all of the social media sights we were all encouraged to welcome Stokes at the airport. We were informed he was a priority. True, we cast a wide net, but OK coach informs us when an important recruit is in town. Transfers will be a big piece of teams, but PK sees a special kid, he will focus on him.

Stokes is from here born and raised .

CPK does need to land a couple/few of these guys. However his recruiting for his first team appears to be solid. He landed a highly ranked transfer portal class and also one of the highest rated freshmen, Khani Rooths, that UofL has ever had.

Many think that CPK will only sign a few freshmen in the 2025 class with the rest to be filled out with returning players and the transfer portal. Though the Cards will lose many players after this season they potentially have Khalifa, Rodgers, (both redshirts this year), Scott, Rooths, and Johnson returning so the cupboard will be depleted but not bare. Of course no guarantees there obviously.

Right now it seems Kelsey is focusing on Shelton Henderson, Nate Ament and Mikel Brown Jr. for 2025. We'll see how it goes.
