At the risk of being mauled with negative thoughts, It is too bad that a man of this stature and intelligence has created such a negative picture of himself since his being named the Chair of the U of L Board of Trustees. At such a crucial time in our history, it is important that the highest ranked non-interim official staff at U of L, be perceived as having the best interest of the entire University of Louisville as well as the community we live. JDG has failed miserably at this task. To hide in the shadows of his responsibilities at a time when he could be providing visible leadership that would inspire each of us is inexcusable.

He is exactly the right man to be leading our otherwise weak BOT now, but he cannot hide while
trying to make significant changes which will make the University an academic leader for the education of the business leaders that will build our community..

He also seems to not understand the value that a well run athletic department brings to the
positive image that causes people to take notice and provide the financial backing that all Universities
require. State Legislatures seem to no longer be willing to provide the level of support that
would help achieve the goals we deem to be necessary.

Cheating can never be tolerated, whether it be in athletics, administration, or research. Outstanding leadership will be required and that leadership must be visible and willing to stand in the front and
sell their vision to each of us.

Let the verbal mauling begin....

Read this and weep! He'd fit right in at Pedo State or Michigan State. Word is this lady is going to bring this to light again.

FEW ISSUES
Through his long career, Grissom has largely avoided controversy and scandal, but in 1994 he was one of several witnesses called to testify before a federal grand jury investigating passage of a heavily lobbied 1984 bill to allow banks to operate across county lines.

Neither Grissom nor his bank was implicated in the scandal, which ultimately saw 15 state lawmakers and lobbyists convicted on corruption charges.

In 1997, when Grissom was on the board of what was then called the Kentucky Center for the Arts, he allegedly discouraged a witness from talking to the lawyer for Diane Cameron Lawrence, a center employee whose sexual harassment suit against director Marlow Burt eventually was settled for $218,000. Courier Journal reported that the witness, Tracey Cooke, said in a deposition that Grissom told her that if she “cared about the center, I would not speak.” Grissom declined to comment at the time.

brooks, would you please clarify your opinion on Grissom? :p

In fairness to the OP, it is a waste when someone with a lot of ability gets off track for some reason. It's a lot of ability gone to waste...

A very thought provoking post.
I find it interesting that one of the criticisms of the prior administration and athletic department was a lack of transparency and being " invisible" . Mr. Grissom has proven to be the epitome of the very thing he and his board were critical of from the prior regime.
