The Redskins' O-Line has been a soap opera the last couple of years. One position that wasn't ever an issue was Left Tackle, where Trent Williams has played for (seemingly) forever. Louisville's Geron Christian was drafted in the 3rd round two years ago, with the idea he could be developed into Williams' eventual replacement.
Williams is 31, with 2 years remaining on a contract that made him the highest paid O-Linemen in the NFL when it was signed. (He is now something like the 7th highest paid linemen). Well ... Williams is holding out, and seems pretty ticked off at the Skins front office. Rumors are starting to swirl that he could be traded. Which would clearly open up things for Geron.
Last season, when the O-Line was healthy, the Skins jumped out to a 6-2 record. Then the team was hit with a rash of injuiries, including Trent Williams, and then pretty quickly to Geron Christian (torn MCL).
Anyway .. Geron's recovered from his imjury, but the Skins are easing him back into things ....
Day 2 of training camp had him working with the first team O-Line, during the walk through part of practice.

The return to the practice field of Geron Christian Sr. is turning into a bigger story than most people expected it to be early in the offseason. That was before Ty Nsekhe left in free agency. Before Ereck Flowers was signed. Before Trent Williams started his holdout.
Geron Christian was drafted last year in the 3rd round, and was expected to step into Nsekhe's role as the Redskins swing tackle. He didn't seem like he was ready for that role, and would need to gain strength to play at the NFL level. He was forced to step in due to injuries, and his season ended shortly after that when he tore his MCL.
Now we are in Day 2 of training camp, and Ereck Flowers has been starting at LT due to Williams' holdout, and Christian being held out of practice. Jay Gruden said today the Redskins will be bringing in veteran tackles including Donald Penn, and they hope to sign one.
Geron Christian made his return to the practice field this afternoon when the Redskins did their walk through. He stepped in at left tackle, moving Flowers over to LG for the half speed practices. This isn't a full return, but it is more than he has been doing and a good sign for his training camp future. The Redskins are still likely to bring in a veteran since their depth is so thin (and terrible), and Williams’ future with the team is up in the air.
