John Thompson III - a respected and successful coach was fired after going 29-36 and 12-24 in the BE in his last two seasons. Patrick Ewing a NBA assistant with no HC experience is hired.

Last night, the once mighty Hoyas lost their 25 consecutive conference game in front of approximately 3K fans in the 20K capacity Capital Center.

Should the remainder of UofL’s season play out the way Vegas believes it will - UofL will have lost 21 conference games in a row. Wonder how many fans will be there to watch that? 🤔

Their coach next year will be Rick Pitino. You can write that down in permanent marker. And Rick will show how quickly a program can be restored.
Permanent marker is a bit of a stretch, but I wouldn’t doubt it Pitino was always a fan of Big East basketball 🏀!

Firing Ewing will feel like total disrespect from Gtown. But it has to be done. We find ourselves in the same boat. Kenny is a nice guy, an alum, a highly regarded ex-player, a guy with tons of support from a vocal group of powerful proponents and an awful coach. High level college hoops is big business and has to be treated as such. That means you take the emotion and even loyalty out of the equation when it comes to decision making. It’s hard, but it has to be done.

Heird has shown he has an adequate set of gnads in his moves with Satterfield and CJB. He’s up against the same powerful lobby he faced when he hired KP, but I feel he’ll handle it better once this hellish season comes to a merciful end. At least I hope he will.

Georgetown was down about 20 years before Ewing became the coach.

Their record in the 20 years prior to Ewing was 414-246. Maybe that’s “down” from the excellence of the 80s-90s but, whole lot of programs would have loved to have had that record during that stretch.

For further context - Ewing’s record is 73-95 which, is terrible. Except when you compare it to Payne’s trajectory - he’ll have to step it up to get anywhere close to even that level of bad.

I can’t see Pitino in Texas he is an east of the Mississippi guy. I can see him at Georgetown though like someone already posted he is a Bug East fan. If he ends up there I can see him bringing them back to prominence. As far as the big money boosters who are supporting KP with this debacle they need to get their priorities straight. If they are truly Louisville fans they need to clean this mess up and do the right thing.
I have been a Louisville fan all my life and I don’t even watch our games anymore. I don’t even glance at our schedule we are so bad it is embarrassing. I have friends who gave up their season tickets when they hired KP and the ones who didn’t don’t go to the games anymore. They said they won’t renew their tickets next year we will quickly become a has been.

I don't disagree with the analogy. But Ewing has had a longer run at Georgetown as coach than Payne has had here.

If Payne was in this situation after several years, no question he would be hitting the bricks. As bad as things may be in a couple more months, I'm still not convinced he's going anywhere but Year Two...

Here’s to never finding out what year 5 of a Kenny Payne regime looks like. Unless it’s at Simmons College. 😂
