Nothing is set in stone but with momentum pointing towards hiring Kenny Payne one of the things mentioned this week has been who would be brought on for assistant coach positions. I don't know how confident those who have said it are if they have Intel or they're just hopeful but it's been said Wagner and Nolan Smith could be on the sidelines at Louisville next year. The hype with Nolan being a younger guy and at least one person has said on this board or on ESPN Louisville in the past 48 hours that he is considered the best assistant coach for Jon Scheyers staff when he takes over. He won a NC with Jon at Duke in 2010 (and was the best player on that team maybe minus a Plumlee) and his father Derek Smith played for Louisville in the 90s. Wikipedia says he was born in Louisville but graduated highschool in Virginia so idk how deep his roots are with the city but his family has a connection.

The other coach mentioned is Wagner. All I ever hear or read when he's brought up is his last name so I'm unsure. For those that know or at least have been saying this lately, are we talking about former Louisville player Milt Wagner or his son Dejuan who played for Memphis? Whenever brought up, shortly after it's mentioned having Wagner on staff, it would make us strong contenders for DJ Wagner who would otherwise be considered a lock to go to UK. Dejuan played for Calipari in Memphis and doesn't have a coaching history documented I can find but Milt seems to have stopped coaching in 2014 according to Wikipedia. With all this positive buzz, which Wagner is thought to be brought on and what belief is there that he is a good assistant coach in 2022?

Are there any other assistant coach candidates being talked about?
