In theory, I think a press sounds like a great idea. I even think they used it fairly effectively in garbage minutes of one of the Maui games.
My concern is that it may exacerbate the deficiencies we already see on the defense end and lead to even more easy buckets by the offense. The difference with Crum and Pitino’s teams that pressed, is that they were committed to playing sound defense. They communicated well and played with a high-level of energy and focus on that end of the floor. Those teams understood what and who they were.
I think a press or some type of run and jump, half-court trapping defense would be great. I’m just not sure with this group. At this point, I would be trying everything though.
