If the guy that was supposed to lead you to glory is 4th string at Alabama then how does UK ever expect to compete in the SEC? Stoops was able to land some good recruits selling early playing time and his sound bites but that window is closing fast.

Just because you get playing time doesn't mean you're going to be able to showcase your skills. Mac Jones could do more for his future in one year at Alabama than he could in 4 years at UK. At Alabama he's going to get top flight coaching and facilities as well as play against and with top flight talent. He's going to get behind center being guarded by an NFL caliber offensive line and throw to NFL caliber WRs/TEs and hand the ball off to NFL caliber RBs. Thats going to make him look pretty good. At UK he may play every snap for 4 years but he's going to in all likelihood have to go through a coaching change during his time on campus, he going to play behind a shaky offensive line, mediocre WRs/TEs and hand it off to mediocre RBs. All that and the fact that going to UK means he's going to lose half the games he plays in and 3/4 of the conference games he plays in...
So he can go to UK and play 4 years and have an up and down career where he might have 1 big year and UK might win 8 games but overall his 4 years will be "o.k." due to the talent, coaching and program...OR....he goes to Bama for 4 years...works his ass off with future NFL players and tries to get on the field by his junior or senior year for a chance to win a national championship. Plus...if he stays 4 years he's almost guaranteed a ring.
I don't say this because UK is our rival...but I don't understand why ANY decently talented kid would play football for UK if they had other options. I'll say the same thing about ANY of the other bottom tier power 5 schools. You're basically agreeing to being a loser for 4 years and I don't understand that.
That's where UK is at currently. They try to recruit the best players they can and hope for the best. Unfortunately, that means losing players that could potentially have been program changing to programs like Alabama where they'll redshirt, then ride the pine for a year or two before they'll get playing time.
I did notice that "coaching them so they can make the most of their potential" did not appear in that second sentence. So, It appears we all agree that "hoping for the best" is Stoops' strategy once players arrive on campus.
Very reasonable, and I can't really disagree. UK football is in a conundrum. To get good players, you have to win. And to win, you have to have good players, or play in a weak conference with mediocre talent. UK will never leave the SEC, much to my chagrin. I would love to see them leave the SEC and become an independent like Notre Dame and schedule whomever they wished. But, I digress... I agree that its hard to see why any top rated kid would pick UK in football. Unless, they really want to be part of a revolution, and if that is what Stoop's is selling... Unfortunately, for me, all I can do is believe.

There are templates for improving. We're one, in fact. Boise, TCU, all sorts of teams have improved themselves into premier programs. UK has even more inbuilt advantages than them, complete with an additional 30 million a year with TV money rolling in.

LPT fans don't truly understand where they are in the pecking order. Witness this comment... "he was bound to get an offer from a better program and flip." Just about EVERY program is a better program. It didn't take Bama to distract this kid, not when the alternative was LPT.
They oughta be generous and thankful and understanding in any situation like Jones'. When any decent recruit ends up at LPT, slapd!cks should recognize that their team deserves no recruits of any quality, not where they are WRT to other college football programs.

Actually Clock, you are closer to the truth than you may realize. Being the 4th string QB at Alabama is better than being a 1st string QB at UK ............winning 4 or 5 games a year and sitting home every Bowl season is pretty depressing. Just ask Towles, another 4 star QB who was 1st string at UK and left to play at BC (last place ACC); that should tell you everything you need to know about wildcat football.

UK has had its share of busts as well but our QB play has been a result of poor talent and not having a dedicated QB coach since Sanders (QB coach at FSU now) developed Woodson.
UK will always have to throw a lot to have a chance in the SEC so it will always be a QB friendly program. Stoops is building what will be one of the top offensive lines in the conference and has a receiving corps that some are ranking the best in the SEC east this year. The QB depth chart is wide open and Mac could be a guaranteed 2-3 year starter in an offense that throws 35-40 times a game. Instead he will be handing the ball of that much and will be relegated to being a game manager instead of the star of the team. He will be in danger of being recruited over every year (Tua who is committed in the same class is already better than him).
UK has a lot to offer a QB right now with the depth chart situation at QB, the way the Oline is shaping up (especially if we sign Wills), and the athletes we are signing at receiver (Javonte Richardson is an animal)

LOL... The common denominator of all those teams?? They ALL built their programs by feasting on chumps in BS conferences, until they made a jump to a respectable conference. UK does not have that luxury. They're both blessed (financially) and cursed (results) being in the SEC.

Exactly- UK's Offense will rule the SEC this year - Best Offense line with players ranked at least 5.7265 stars everywhere. The best running back to ever lace them up in the SEC in Boom. The top SEC QB in Barker, who last you saw him was dismantling UofL's defense with double digit passing yards, and when they catch the ball, the #1 group of Animal Receivers in America. Now with Kash joining Big Matt on defense it really isn't fair to the rest of college football. Coach Stoops just needs to roll out the ball this year and let them play- he won't even have to bring his grade A coaching ability into play.

I told people that Coach had to let Jones go because he had recruited over him. Jauk said Jones is a 5.6721 star but if the new kid had any stars he would be at least a 5.6814.
