@Cardinal Cash

So you're saying that between Feb-March of 2020 when the lockdowns began, people were running around sick and infecting everyone and that is why the virus persists a year later? What a selective memory and a load of bollocks with no basis in actual fact. When this first began, NOTHING was open. The only people out and about were those declared "essential". You couldn't go anywhere. Drive-thrus weren't open, WalMart wasn't open. Grocery stores weren't open. It took two weeks before they declared the latter two as "essential". Even when they did, they limited the number of customers and those customers were not allowed in without masks. No independent businesses were allowed open for over a month. Even when they did, they limited the number of customers and those customers were not allowed in without masks. EVERYONE took it seriously because nobody knew anything about it other than what was being said in the news. And we all know how reliable the news is...

Where were you when all that began? In quarantine? So was I. So was everyone else here unless they were deemed "essential". Are they to blame?

You say to not make this political, but attempting to point the finger at these hypothetical people who didn't follow the rules is precisely a political tactic to assign blame to those who question anything. Did 100% of the people who contracted COVID-19 do so by not following mask mandates? Did your family that you lost refuse to follow the precautions and thus responsible for their own infection? Or did they take precautions and still manage to get infected? How does someone in a nursing home in California - with the most strict stay-at-home orders in the nation, manage to contract COVID-19 with zero contact with the outside world save for the medical staff who wear masks and take countless other precautions? Negligence by staff who have been briefed ad nauseam about the consequences of their actions?

The virus is real. Your "if we just followed the rules" nonsense is not. This virus is going to make its way around whether you like it or not. Stop trying to point the finger at imaginary villains. Some people are going to get sick. Some people will get really, really sick. Some people will die. Same is true of influenza, Staph(20K), MRSA(11K), Meningitis(500), TB(500), Japanese encephalitis(15K), Malaria(409K), Hepatitis(4K), and any other known or unknown host of pathogens and parasites.

You're an engineer. Here's some science for you straight from the CDC - From the 2010-2011 flu season to the 2019-2020 season (these run like basketball seasons: 2010-2011; 2011-2012; ...), Deaths from Influenza averaged 35,900 per season with a high of 61,000 in 2017-2018 and a low of 12,000 during the 2011-2012 season. Want to know what the total number of deaths from Influenza (with or without COVID-19) was from Jan 2020 to Feb 2021? 8808. Why so low? Is it all the quarantining and masking? Well why isn't that affecting the COVID numbers which continue to rise?

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burde...pact of flu,61,000 deaths annually since 2010.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink. I can't make you see what's going on if you don't already, but it's clear you place your trust and take your marching orders from mainstream media - which have no interest in sensationalism. They just have our best interests at heart and have proven integrity and credibility. It's not politics, it's science. Just like:

"I've been exposed, my immune system neutralized it, produced antibodies. I can ditch the mask then, right?"
"No, there are cases of reinfection. And we don't know enough. Keep the mask on as a precaution."
"For who? Me? I'm willing to take that risk."
"For others! You could spread it!"
"How? My body neutralized it so fast I never had symptoms nor tested positive with numerous tests."
"Uh, just as a precaution..."
"Okay, well what if I get the vaccine? Can I ditch the mask then?"
"No, take precautions. Plus there's no guarantee the vaccine is 100% effective."
"Is my body's immune response 100% effective?"
"There are new variants...and we don't know how long immunity lasts...and there are rare cases of re-infection.."
"Kinda like COVID is a new variant to SARS?"
"Yes."
"But I likely had SARS, and it was enough for me to fight off COVID-19 without so much as a positive test. Now that I've been exposed and fought off SARS and COVID-19, isn't there a high probability I would be less susceptible to severe complications to a variant?"
"Just wear your mask! Follow the science!"
"Why?"
"Why are you questioning science? You are a conspiracy theorist"
"Because your science does not seem sound. Scientific conclusions are subjective to the data quality and the methodology of both control and experimental groups during the experimentation phase. You're telling me you don't have enough information but I should follow your hypothesis, regardless of my own experience, as if it is a well-informed conclusion...which it can't be without enough information which you yourself admit you do not have."
