Even Ron Cooper went 2-1 against the cayuts

UK has a better roster than we do right now. No doubt about it. Hopefully, that will change but I am not holding my breath.

There are two first round draftees in the UK backfield alone; this Cat team is still much more talented than UL. It could start to change if the 2023 class arrives intact.

Stoop has been their 10 years, and Barnhardt deserves credit for having patience through those early years.

Barnfart - as evidenced by outbidding only himself in giving Stupes a raise to 9M(!) - believes that Porky is the best coach that the yuts can get. Hopefully Heird thinks differently when it comes to Satterfield.

Stoops was given time to build his team to compete in the SEC which means he first built his OL and DL to the SEC standard, size and speed. A good defense always keeps you in the game as it did Louisville yesterday.

No question with regards to Stupes. My question is - how long does it take to build your team to compete in the ACC?

You have a good question. The answer depends on your perspective as to where you think Louisville fits in the FB food chain. Louisville has some built in disadvantages when it comes to building a FB program and being a conference leader every season. Is realistic competing in the hunt for the conference championship each year or more in the 7-10 win range each season with a lightening in the bottle year thrown in every once in a while?

I would think for now the answer is the second choice. That said, I firmly believe that the old BE was every bit as strong (certainly at the top) as the ACC and UofL excelled. Excepting the krapthorpe years, there was only one year (Strong’s first) that UofL wasn’t either conference champion, co-champion or runner up. Particularly with the elimination of divisions, I don’t think that there’s any reason why UofL could not aspire to be in that same position in the ACC.

With the right coach…

I think the gap is closing. UK has taken full advantage of the program being down these last few years. Stoops definitely has Satt’s number, too. But, being at the game, it didn’t look like UK was notably better. But better they were, yes.

I agree we have closed the gap and we bring in a good class next year. I do worry about the players we are losing though.
