UL wore similar uniforms [except for the trunks] in the late 50's thru the mid late late 60's and later. IIRC. On a side note, I recall watching a number of ABA and even a few NBA players play in the "Dirt Bowl" back in the day. What I don't get is the Dirt Bowl tie in? Any help? Thanks in advance.

Paying tribute to the legacy of basketball in the City of Louisville, not just at the University. A lot of great players never got to be Cards, went somewhere else or never played college ball at all.

Thanks BooneCo_Card. The guys doing the broadcast didn't really get into that. The morning CJ failed to do so also. Anyway Ron King Louisville Central comes to mind although I have forgotten why he chose to play at FSU.

Ron King and teammate Otto Petty were snatched up by FSU Coach Hugh Durham. A lot of recruiting violations had them on probation, $$$ may have been involved. The Seminoles were ineligible for most of Dave Cowens' career. The FSU team that went to the NC had just come off probation that year.

There. That happened 50+ years ago. Plz don't ask what I did yesterday lol.

You must have missed it during the game but the announcers did mention the uniforms during the game. They had a whole segment about them and they told the story of how Peyton got the team together this past year and told them the history of the dirt bowl. Also Edward’s in the post game mentioned them as well.

Durham is from Louisville and played at Eastern HS. No doubt he had the connections to recruit King and Petty.

Hugh Durham also had the guts to integrate his teams b4 it was largely acceptable. Opportunities for black athletes were limited if you weren't a sure-fire star like Wes or Butch. Mike Redd had to go to KY Wesleyan for heaven's sake!

It was just a sign of the times, unfortunately. 1966 gave us Texas Western/Rupp's Runts. 1971 gave us WKU and an All-Black starting five in the FF followed up with the next year's All-Black FSU starting team. Suddenly, the door was wide open.

One of my favorite all time memories was when the Hilltoppers destroyed uk in the 1971 NCAA tournament Mideast Regional round of 16. The Hilltoppers won 107–83. Thats when I heard so much about Rupp's racism against McDaniels and black players and why I continue to despise the kitties.

Jim Rose - Hazard

IIRC Jerome Perry was injured prior to 1970-1 season and missed the entire year. He was a starter on the 1969-70 team.

The OT loss was to Villanova.

Jim Richards was the head coach at Glasgow HS and brought Bailey and Dunn with him when he became Johnny Oldham's assistant.

It’s hell to get old. I didn’t remember squat about Nova til you posted this. 🤣

Everybody but UCLA had to vacate IIRC for some players having agents.
McDaniels at WKU
I believe it was Porter(?) at Nova
Don’t remember at Kansas.
