Happy Easter, everybody.
Just wanted to drop in and break some news on this Sunday morning.
I'm told that Kenny Payne will hire Justin Perez as his Director of Basketball Operations.
I've been alluding to the buzz that this hire was someone in their mid-20s, and that was correct. What was also correct is that Perez is a stud of a hire, and is extremely well connected.
Let me break his resume/background down:
- Played college basketball at American University
- Graduates from Columbia Law School this year
- Interned for the Knicks
However, what's most intriguing about this hire:
His family helped found and start RocNation, Jay Z's media agency.
An industry source told me that "this hire is up there with Nolan Smith as far as the impact he will have"
With Perez's background in basketball & law, plus his connections through RocNation, I was told that he's going to really help this staff navigate through the NIL/agent waters.
For me, this is the most intriguing hire of them all, and it's one that I'm extremely amped about after talking with people in the NBA and around basketball.
Kenny Payne is doing the damn thing.
