The success of this program over the next 2-5 years is going to be the development of the defense.
The offense is going to be incredibly difficult to stop on the college level. They put so much pressure on the defense in the run and pass game. They will have no trouble recruiting skilled players to their system. While it is a run based offense they are flexible enough to make teams play with passing game. The offense played good enough against FSU and Miami to win. It requires a very disciplined defense to stop it. The only question moving forward is how long does Ledford stay? There isn’t an abundance of good Oline coaches.
The defense is the question mark. Can they recruit well enough to build a top 50 defense? This is where not being in a recruiting hotbed hurts. It is really hard to evaluate the current defense staff other than the kids are playing hard for them. I think this side of the ball is were the true rebuild is taking place. It could take 2-3 more years to really see major improvement.
