New Louisville coach Chris Mack and his staff finally got the recruiting break they needed.

Christen Cunningham, a Georgetown, Kentucky, native, pledged on Monday to spend his last year of college eligibility at Louisville, picking the Cardinals over Arizona State and Oregon State. The 6-foot-1 point guard who graduated from Samford University also visited Ohio State.

As a junior at Samford, Cunningham averaged 11.4 points, 6.3 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game. He shot 35.4 percent from 3-point range.

Cunningham is Samford's all-time assists leader and set the school record for assists in a season with 225 over the 2016-17 campaign.

He started Samford's 2015-16 season opener at Louisville, totaling 15 points and six rebounds.

I like the 6.3 assists per game average. We need a guy who can throw the dimes. Love this pick up. MUCH needed!!

Go CARDS!!!

Agreed. This part caught my eye with Cunningham being Samford's all time assists leader. This team could use a good passer/playmaker.

Right now, we need bodies. Hopefully he can contribute.

Hopefully Cunningham can provide some solid minutes at guard this season. If he can bring more than that it will be a bonus IMO.

But you're right this team needed, and still needs, bodies that can help out. Hoping Mack can reel in a couple more players for this coming season.
