Coach Walz shot down the rumors that he was going to Mississippi State after they supposedly offered him 2 million. Shortly after, he received a commitment from one of the top guards in the country. Payton Velhurst a 6’1” guard from Kansas committed to Louisville for the class of 2021. She was a member of the U.S. National team and was voted the MVP, she turned down some of the top schools in the country saying Louisville was the perfect fit for her. Some of the schools she turned down were Oregon, Notre Dame, Stanford among a host of others.

I misspelled her last name the correct spelling is Verhulst. I watched the video on her and she reminds me of the girl from Oregon, Sabrina Ionesco. What a backcourt Louisville will have when she arrives Hailey Van Lith and Payton Verhulst. That would have to be one of the best backcourts in the country.

Walz is a recruiting machine. He ever gets a title, watch out!
My ONLY concern about Walz's recruiting is bigs. It strikes me that big girl play has gotten MUCH better over the past 6 or 7 years. JMO

Peace

I would like to have more bigs like Kylee Shook, we have a couple of players that have good size. The guards control the game in men’s and women’s basketball. I think we could be a couple of years away from a National Title maybe even next year.

One thing is for sure the players coming in combined with the players already here will make a real exciting style of play. I agree with Commodore I would not want to move to Starkville or most of the schools in the SEC.

Dixon, Parker, Cochran and then Lockhart. That’s some pretty good size.

Dixon 6'5
Parker 6'4
Cochran 6'1
Lockhart 6'1

We need a couple of more 6'3 plus. I don't think it would matter if Coach Walz went to a press.

FYI from stats and observations at games. I believe Molly is 6’3. Dixon might be 6’4 if she stands really straight. Cochran’s height has been a talking point. She may be 6’1, 6’2 or 6’3. Who knows. I think I have seen her listed taller than 6’1 more times than not.

A little extra digging I kept running into 6’1” for Cochran. She is definitely a post player though and not a taller wing.

She is a wide body also. But yes, I've seen her listed as tall as 6'3, but most recently, everything is pointing towards 6'1.

You are correct, Lockhart is 6'3. Not sure where I got 6'1 from. Thanks!

It’s all good. Who knows their exact heights anyway. Cochran...I read up on her and in middle school she just a little shorter but weighed 225 (I think that is correct) She talked about getting picked on, etc. A coach got a hold of her and really worked her and she embraced it. Sounds like she has a really fantastic work ethic and loves to live in the paint.

She reminds me of Hines-Allen.

Olivia is 6'3". She'll make an impact at Louisville. Here is what Jeff Walz said about her:

"Olivia Cochran shores up a strong front line with her physicality and passion for the game. She brings the term power back into the forward position. She is an elite rebounder and scorer with face-up skills. She has a nose for the ball and brings an element of toughness and strength with her blue collar work ethic. Her experiences playing with USA basketball this past summer helped develop a great sense of confidence and she has the ability to compete at the highest level. There is no job or defensive assignment she isn't willing to undertake to help her team win."

Sounds a lot like Myisha to me...

I saw her listed 6'3 early on, most of the recent listings have her at 6'1. She's going to be a short power forward, but she is strong with a wide body. I'm interested to see her on the court.

I’ve said the same thing in that I saw a Hines-Allen comparison. That is a lofty comparison though. I truly hope she is 6’3” - guess we’ll see when she is standing next to everyone else. Heck, she can be 5’7” - this FB she can block out, jump and rebound like a beast who cares
