In Louisville’s team section, Kenny Payne acknowledges “the lack of having a large number of guards and playmakers” and says Jae’Lyn Withers and Kamari Lands will be used to help initiate offense.

“I’m not saying those guys have to be a point guard,” Payne said. “But they just have to make plays and handle the ball at times.”

" One last note on The Almanac’s Louisville section: Lands at shooting guard and a Withers-Brandon Huntley-Hatfield-Sydney Curry frontcourt? That’s the starting lineup around El Ellis that The Almanac posted. That, my friends, is very interesting. And tall."

Only player we haven't actually seen in competition is Lands All the others have shown at various times a very high level of play . I like this line up . I truly expect Withers to perform like we seen his freshman year with a more consistent game. Ellis is a jucco those kids usually are better in a yearor two of D-1 . This team will get solid coaching something they haven't had. Don't underestimate this team.

If this is the starting lineup, we better hope Withers has improved immensely if he is really playing small forward.

Because judging from last year he didn't have the outside shooting ability, handles, speed, or decision making to play outside the paint as a stretch 4 let alone as a SF.

It remains to be seen what will work and what won't in year one of the KP era, but I don't expect the team to look uninspired, or inept like last season.

If this team loses lots of games and it's due to just not having enough depth, I think fans will understand. If we lose a bunch of close games and it's not due to careless play, I think we could handle it.

All I ask for is effort and coaching adjustments in year one. Players playing hard and disciplined and coaches making adjustments to what opponents are doing. If we go 17 and 14 and play in the NIT doing that, I won't be upset.

But we're going to be a very tall team and teams will have to adjust to that and maybe that could lead to more wins than expected?

We just can't see uninspired effort or dumb tactics by the staff that would lead most everyone skeptical of KP as the head coach. I don't think that's going to be the case. I think we're going to be a surprise and be a bubble team come March.

i like the lineup. could use a little more 3 point shooting and better FT shooting. but some mismatches with Kamari at 6-7 at shooting guard and Wither 6-8 at SF.
we are going to play some pick and roll as i understand. it opens the door to mismatches due to our size.

I also wonder if there is enough ball handling with that lineup too. If not I can see teams using full or 3/4 court pressure to make the guys turn it over. Kinda like they did against Mack's teams.

It all comes down to guard play. If that is in good order, then I think this team will be in the hunt for an NCAAT bid. I believe the returning players are far better than last year's disaster showed (we saw glimpses) and Kenny PAYNE (who won those games) got some good new pieces.

So what you're saying is the best handles on the team are from the fans. Lol, I think it goes white chocolate, AI, Kyrie Irving, and then Withers.
