Per Twiiter, 2021 prospect Sydni Schetan -- a 6'5" post out of Washington H.S. in Sioux Falls, SD has committed to playing for Louisville WBB and Volleyball.

"I'm extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic, basketball and volleyball careers at the University of Louisville. Thank you to all that have supported me through this prospect. All glory to God! #gocards

ESPNW has her has the 74th overall in the 2021 class and 9th in the post position. A 94 scouts grade.

Send her a "welcome" at @Sydni_Sch on Twitter

Can’t coach height! Hope she sticks with BB if she is talented enough and doesn’t bail to VB only.

I'm not sure about the state of girl's basketball in South Dakota but an intriguing 6'5" prospect nonetheless. LONG arms in addition to height. From just a few highlight snips appears to have good agility to go with the height. ESPN evaluator says lots of good things and concludes: "a sleeper prospect with off-the-charts potential". I like that.

Peace

These girls can’t help where they are from so their schedule is not their fault. Most of these girls play high school ball plus competitive ball. Van Lith faces some criticism because they didn’t feel her high school schedule was competitive enough. In her defense she went to multiple camps including a camp for young men in which she was the only girl invited and she did really well.

She also played in the World Cup games multiple years and has multiple gold medals and MVP awards. I would be surprised if HVL or Verhulst redshirted they are both talented athletes and are physically developed.

Hailey and Sydni are in separate classes. Plus they both have played Team USA basketball as well as Travel ball. I doubt that either will redshirt.

I seriously doubt they redshirt anyone else. It will be difficult to land these 5* kids if they are asked to redshirt. We are in a good position to pump the brakes on 5'11 to 6'1 players and go all in on a post player with size.

Hello all !!! It has been years since I have posted on this forum. Frankly, it was this board and the fact that Sonia, the amiable partner of Paulie, is the moderator of this board that draws me back. I am a big fan of women's sports at U of L, particularly basketball.

Even the thought of redshirting Hailey, the number 7 ranked player by ESPN, makes me doubt the sanity of anyone who suggests it. It just won't happen. Sydni has her senior year in high school ahead of her and will likely make enormous strides in her basketball. At least that is my prediction. She won't be redshirted either!!

Kosmos may have just thought of HVL instead of a Sydni. Totally agree - HVL is special and I would be surprised to see her running point with Dana at the two. Maybe not all the time, but certainly a powerful option.

Welcome aboard. I’ve been pushing for this forum for the last year and the powers that be finally agreed and got Sonja on board. Like you, I’m a huge women’s basketball fan. I will continue to add content as I come across it.

I never said any of them would be redshirted. I have seen them play and they are top notch players I am excited to see them in the Yum. HVL is one of the best players in the country and she can play with anyone. In the World Cup Games they also have a 3x3 tournament.
She was on the same team with Page Buechers, ( the number one player in the country this year) and Sam Bruenelle ( Notre Dame) and HVL was voted the MVP of that tournament. Payton Verhulst 6’1” guard 150 lbs and is very talented. She was voted the Gatorade player of the year in Kansas. The Kansas Newspaper wrote a very good article on her talking about how team oriented she is. They also said she was a devout Catholic who was always concerned about the well being of others.

Sydni Schetnan has only been playing BB a couple of years now but she has drawn the attention of some of the top programs in the country. She is very athletic and at 6’5” she could really impact a game.

Then we have Olivia Cochran from Georgia 6’3” who is a strong inside player coming in next season so we have some really good exciting players coming in. The good thing from everything I have read and seen not only are these girls good athletes but they are good people.

Something I read when Verhulst committed to Louisville was really funny. It was on a thread about her commitment and the Tennessee fans were really disappointed she didn’t go to Tennessee. One of there fans posted “ Louisville had a good coach, Tennessee has a coach”.

I wonder since Sydni Schetnan is a 2 sport athlete will she be on scholarship for Volleyball and a walk on for basketball?

Thought about that as well. Would be nice if she was a walk-on for WBB allowing for an additional scholarship player.

I would like some bigger players underneath but 5’9” and 6’1” guards are fine with me. Regarding size WBB reminds me of men’s basketball in the 60’s. Having a 6’7” center was pretty standard and then the players kept getting taller and taller.
Now you have 6’7” guards and if you don’t have several 6’ 10” players or more on your team you are not going to be successful. I think WBB will go the same way, slowly but surely the players are getting taller in WBB.

The NCAA has rules about that situation for the men, but I'm not sure about the women. With the increasing popularity of women's basketball, my guess is she will have to take a basketball scholly...

I'd think a redshirt in VB would be a distinct possibility. The Louisville Volleyball roster is loaded with young talent.

I do know that the only senior on last year's team was Melanie ( a real good one who was hurt late in the season and, of course, did not play). I am unsure how many freshmen will join the team. They have 13 listed players now on the volleyball team and 5 are seniors. Still, it does look like the team is loaded but how do you red shirt a 6'5" freshman with her credentials? :)

Speaking of recruiting, in my attempt to find out more above volleyball recruiting I stumbled across the information below. It sure looks like our neighbors to the East have done very well!!

Sonja, JD has a really good one on one with her on his site. It doesn’t sound like redshirting is currently in her plans.

It is interesting how some are allowed to interview HVL and others are not.

This was on Sydni, but I know he has also interviewed Hailey as well. I didn’t know there were any restrictions on media interviews. Seems kinda odd since you and Paulie are both well respected within the Athletic department.
