1) Definitely disappointing. Petrino did address the reason for this during his press conference this week, and to me that shows a definite lack of attention to detail. I do wonder whether the loss of his Bob Petrino Sr. during the off-season was a big distraction that resulted in the product we saw in game 1 not being as polished as it usually is.
2) Not sure what you mean here....
3) All teams use primarily 2nd and 3rd stringers on special teams, and Alabama's 2nd and 3rd stringers are significantly better than ours.
4) There is no need to justify this. Jackson was a part of our team the past three years, and we were one of the very best running teams in the country as a result. Rather than being asked to justify poor coaching, Petrino should be praised for taking advantage of Jackson's unique talent.
5) This appears to be a repeat of #1 - or at least it is my explanation for why #1 occurred....
6) Pretty sure Nick Saban was taking his team to task for these very same issues. It's football. It's played at a very fast pace and with great emotion and effort by athletic young men. Lack of self control, making mistakes and stupid penalties is a nearly universal complaint of fans of every team. When you win, these things matter not nearly as much.
Bottom line here with regards to Petrino, version 2: we are 21-11 in conference games in one of the premiere football conferences in the country during his four years, a 65.6% winning percentage. That's a damned good mark: one that does not need to be defended or justified in any way shape or form.
