Not quite the quote, but my avatar seldom says exactly what he's thinking. The message, however, is clear... We can screw around with football, but don't mess with LPT basketball.

Which is precisely why LPT football can never sustain anything but fleeting success, and that success only when the planets are fully aligned. Same is true of baseball and their other sports. All worship at the basketball altar, and not even the AD is gonna mess with the order of things.

No chance a joke like "they're playing at Kroger's" is gonna apply to basketball.

"Elite program," my a$$...

Yeah, if the cayuts, cayuts, cayuts want to copy something then it should be our success in football. In reality, they should "copy" our move to the ACC but, then again, that would "mess" with their basketball and they'd have to actually play a real conference schedule and Calivacate wouldn't like that at all. Plus a move like that would get them off the conference "welfare" rolls and they would take a cut.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

Rupp Arena houses a team that is perennially a national title contender. Top 10 mathcups, NCAA tournament games, Conference Tourney games, KHSAA Sweet 16, and a memorable Final 4 in 1985.

Commonwealth Stadium houses one of the WORST teams in the P5. Nothing but losses and bad memories at Commonwealth. The money spent on football upgrades came directly from the agreement with JMI that led to this Kroger name. The stadium is way nicer than it used to be and its facilities are top level.

I'm sorry, but Mitch(who I disagree with a lot) is being honest. Rupp Arena has hosted big time events and Commonwealth has been a home of losers for too long. He should've phrased it "The basketball team has the highest attendance in the Nation year in and out and Commonwealth Stadium can barely sellout games because the team loses to folks like Southern Miss." But that would've been too honest.

The Football has taken a backseat for awhile, and Baseball/other sports too. But, I will say it was a lot more to do with incompetence at the top. Remember, Basketball itself was not in good shape from 99-09. Barnhart messed up with the last baseball hire, Gillispie, and Joker. But, Stoops and the staff have upgraded the program(final results are TBD) along with stadium upgrades, the new baseball coach along with the new stadium has that program looking up, and Calipari has been a massive upgrade from Tubby/Billy. Mitch has not always been the best (I think he should've been fired after the Joker saga), but has done alright here as of late.

Are you saying they need to rebuild Stoll Field in order to have at least a modest sense of success represented?

Sorry, but most teams would gladly take the Tubby Smith era. Throw out Bogans' untimely injury and the loss of the kid from Indy and you are looking at one and possibly two NCs during that period.

I know, UK is not most schools.

Lets be honest in this. Yes, Cal turned out to be a great hire, but Mitch took a HUGE risk in hiring him. He had already been passed over once by UK. Gillispie didn't work out and Mitch was on the hot seat to get it right or he was gone. A majority of the fan base (including Matty Bangs) were opposed to the Calipari hire. I believe Matt called him a cheap used car salesman or something like that.

Barnhart was desperate. If he blew that hire, he was gone and everyone knows it. He took a big risk and it wound up paying off for him.

Mathcups? Is that something you can get with your Kroger Plus card? What aisle is that in?
I'm a Sam's Club shopper so I could not tell you that kind sir ;)

And I can tell you that most Kentucky fans are not enamored with Mitch, but right now athletics as a whole are doing very well. Bowl in Football, ranked in Softball, looking at a top seed in Baseball, ranked in Women's Basketball, ranked in Volleyball, and other sports have done well not even including Men's basketball. Soccer could use some work, but UK has had decent teams in the past. It's hard to contend with UofL in getting some of those top players out of Louisville which has some of the best club play in the country.

I'd trade for Jurich in a heartbeat and you all should enjoy him as long as you have him, he's the best in the country.

No.
A 100% healthy Bogans was not beating Marquette that day. Wade was on fire, with a triple double. No one could stop him that day.

No, Scrubby Smith wasn't getting another title. He never got back to the FF.

Tony "TNT" said it best today. Football - we are the laughing stock of the SEC. Yeah we finally made it to a bowl this year but it seems like it's been a millennium. Basketball - we are the "macdaddy" Mess around with changing the name of Rupp Arena and you're going to see pitch forks and torches....

Zipp do you love the Cardinals more than you hate the Cats?
I'm into both for entertainment value, neither love nor hate.

Now, which is more entertaining? Slapd!cks make that a close race.

Maybe.
My reaction at the time was the rest of the nation finally got to see the D Wade who had given us trouble over the years.
Tubby's failure to get back to the FF doomed him at UK, much like Rupp's failure to get there with the Dan Issel teams led to him being forced out.
The win it all or else mentality still prevails in Lexington and always will.
