University of Louisville men's basketball senior Wayne Blackshear
was named a second team Capital One Academic All-America® Division I
basketball teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA) on Thursday afternoon.

The Chicago, Ill., native earned the 2013 NCAA Elite 89 Award,
presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point
average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's
championships. Blackshear, who is majoring in communications, boasts a
3.4 cumulative grade-point average. He was a member of the 2014 UofL
Athletic Director's Honor Roll while helping the men's basketball team
produced a 3.33 combined GPA for the 2014 fall semester, the
second-highest ever for the Cardinals and the highest among Louisville's
nine men's sports programs.

Capital One Academic All-America® Men's Basketball Division I Team
The Capital One Academic All-America® Division I men's basketball first team is comprised of two juniors, two seniors and a graduate student. In addition to Townsend, graduate student Thomas van der Mars of the University of Portland, senior Chasson Randle of Stanford University, junior Tyler Harvey of Eastern Washington University and junior Shavon Shields of University of Nebraska comprise the first team.
Townsend and van der Mars were each Capital One Academic All-America® third team selections a season ago. Van der Mars earned an operations and technology management degree with a 3.95 G.P.A and is currently pursuing an M.B.A. The native of Gouda, The Netherlands is one of 30 national candidates for the 2014-15 Senior CLASS Award® and was on the Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team last year.
The five members of the Capital One Academic All-America® Division I men's basketball first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.72.
The Capital One Academic All-America® Division I men's basketball second team is led by College of Charleston sophomore Canyon Barry, who is a physics major with a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. Joining Barry on the second team is University of North Carolina junior Marcus Paige, who is a two-time Capital One Academic All-America® second team selection. The Marion, Iowa native is a journalism and history major with a 3.39 G.P.A. Paige was a Bob Cousy Award finalist and a Sporting News second team All-American in 2013-14. Seniors Alex Barlow of Butler University and Wayne Blackshear of the University of Louisville, along with graduate student Levi Randolph of the University of Alabama round out the second team.
The Capital One Academic All-America® Division I men's basketball third team is comprised of three seniors, two juniors and a sophomore. The trio of seniors include Johnny Dee of the University of San Diego, Jordan Gregory of University of Montana and John Kopriva of George Washington University. Belmont University's Craig Bradshaw and the University of Iowa's Mike Gesell are the two juniors on the third team. Sophomore Nigel Williams-Goss of the University of Washington rounds out the squad
