Bellarmine D-I announcement...

Davenport was asked about a series with UofL last night on his talk show. He basically said that The Yum was the best arena that he had ever been in. He indicated that’s where future games will be played if they play UofL.

Any discussion about another venue concerning this is basically “silly”.
"Silly" is defined by dollars and cents...

All of this is irrelevant and shows what you don't know... "Early season neutral site" games are typically funded by television, not what the schools are making from the game operationally. U of L and Bellarmine isn't a TV draw outside this market.

"Vince" should go in asking for all of the revenue from a game on Bellarmine's new home court (KFEC) away from Knight's Hall. That obviously won't fly with Bellarmine, so something in the middle would be negotiated. And U of L gets outta paying Bellarmine a no-return fee at Bailout Arena.

I shouldn't have to describe to you or "Vince" how to do this. (Well maybe you...)

Have you gone crazy? You compared this to Bama/Louisville football and are now trying to spin it as me not knowing why the 2 situations are different.

Why should Tyra go ask for all the revenue to play Bellarmine in Freedom Hall? Other than you, who is trying to get UofL bball back in Freedom Hall? You said it yourself why it would be a pointless exercise? Why would Bellarmine take less money to play what amounts to be a road game in Freedom Hall and not get paid for it vs just playing in the Yum? If they get a portion of the ticket revenue to cover the lost payout cash they wouldn't take less than the payout because there is no benefit for them.

What you seem to continue to fail to understand is that, we may not pay them but we also lose out on the revenue from a home game. If we split the gate with them, we are still basically paying them. Why not just give them part of the ticket sales for one of a 3 games series in the Yum instead of giving them payouts for the games? Whether we cut them a check or take less revenue from the game it amounts to the same effect. Jurich or Tyra or whoever can't just strong arm them into the deal that has no benefit for them. They can always choose to go play someone else for a pay game, their are tons of options.

I'm sure the KFEC would pay us to play in the Yum but there is only so much they'd be willing to pay also. There is a finite amount to how much profit the game would make and it'd likely be less than the Yum can make because its a smaller arena with less high revenue producing suites than the Yum. Its also not a huge name opponent so i doubt the arena could charge some huge premium just to see UofL back in Freedom Hall. Maybe if you bring in Mich st. or someone you might be able to do it but not Bellarmine.

You have no response about Davenport’s comments? He is about 80% or more responsible for Bellarmine’s jump to D-I. Again, he shot down all talk on his Monday night radio show about any venue other than The Yum for a series.

But yet you still can’t accept that your numbers/money posts are both simple spin and incorrect. You are delusional and self righteous.

If Scotty thinks he wants to play his home game at Bailout, that's fine. My guess is he doesn't know what the rent is at Bailout vs The Hall. His AD will help him with that math.

And you don't have a clue who/what I am...

It's Davd-vs-Goliath. And if David doesn't wanna accept Goliath's terms, the game doesn't have to be played.

The financial model is NOT the same as a "neutral site" P5 football game. The analogy is fine, but I never said the financial inputs were the same because it isn't true. However, Goliath always walks away with more money; as usual, you missed the point.

And that's the bottom line. As long as U of L maxes out what it makes playing Bellarmine, it makes no difference where the games are played. More U of L fans will get into those games played anywhere besides Knights' Hall. The KFEC will hold as many fans as Bailout Arena, and actual attendance will be about the same...

You brought up the football analogy. I didn't miss the point. Your point is dumb since you are comparing 2 situations that don't aren't really the same other than one team made more than the other.

I never said anything about equal payouts between us and Bellarmine. I said that Bellarmine has little incentive to take less money than they would have just made playing in the Yum center and having us write them a check. If we made them a deal where they made the same amount of money or more by having a home game it makes little financial sense for us. No matter what the deal I'd expect UofL to have a bigger chunk of the profit. Nobody is angling to play in Freedom Hall again other than you. If we were to go back for some retro game it would need to be a bigger opponent to be worth it.

Freedom Hall doesn't hold the same amount as the Yum. Its not really up for debate, it just is. Because of a bigger arena and more suites, the Yum has the ability to produce more revenue. Home games produce revenue. There is a reason bball teams choose to pay for cupcake games rather than go to the cupcake's arena. You are the only one that thinks playing in Freedom Hall will maximize profits.

This isn't an argument about how much money Bellarmine makes. It's how much U of L makes. If we net more giving Bellarmine a "home" game played in Bumf__k Egypt, that's what "Vince" needs to do. Of course you don't understand financials--again. Let's hope he does.

And the extra 4,000 seats at Bailout Arena vs. The Hall are irrelevant--which is a consistent theme with you. You'll NEVER get close to the 18,000 fans for this game that you can shoehorn into the KFEC...

Bellarmine will announce their transition to D-I soon. The 2019-20 season will be their last season of D-II sports. They will be joining the Atlantic Sun Conference. Should be interesting.
As a Louisville Catholic boy who went to Bellarmine and not UofL....after 2020 I will first and foremost be a Bellarmine fan first in everything but football. I hope they beat Louisville like a damn drum anytime they play them

This will be like Cincy and Xavier. Bellarmine will give them a run

Cat fan? You’ve been accused of it many times. I’m convinced by the post above. “Beat Louisville like a damn drum”, it may occasionally happen here or there in various sports but don’t hold your breath.

Hate Kentucky...but Bellarmine going D1 changes everything for me and for a lot of people. Can't wait !

What, in your opinion, do you see as the next steps to fielding a competitive program? Arena? Donors? I personally see it being a very strong Mid-Major...with a lot of growth potential. Look what Rick Byrd did at Belmont...and Scotty has more D1 experience and in a better market.

Scotty Davenport is as good of a coach as any Power 5 coach. . Has connections to Pitino...which is a very strong coaching tree. He knows the landscape. He doesn't have to change his style. And it's not like he's in a power conference...I bet he's the best X's and O's guy in that conference...those lower end mid majors usually are 1-3 decent teams and the rest are trash with no funding.

Bellarmine is now the 2nd Division 1 program in the #1 college basketball market in the USA. There is support and a love for the game...people in that area want to watch college basketball...the TV ratings show it every year.

There's a lot of Division 1 talent in the Indiana/Cincy/Louisville area to pick from...the big schools (UK, UofL, Indy, Cincy, Xavier) all recruit nationally...but still a lot of good talent to pick from...and it will be easier now for him to sell a Division 1 program.

Totally agree with everything you said ...I have no clue where the money will come from, I'm not that smart of a guy. I just think it will be cool to see a local, small Catholic college (in which I attended ) go D1. I will root my ass off for those kids in the process.

Maybe Bellarmine will have a Rivals board and you can spend your time over there.

Says the guy who supposedly went to Stanford and plays on the internet 24/7...
“Guy” who can’t even remember which school a certain ‘poster’ went to, and never grasped multi-tasking.... o_O

Poor “Hoosier”. :p

Your analogy was idiotic and very loosely had anything similarities to the situation that being discussed. Your point was that both teams don't have to make the same amount from the deal which I understood. That is the only comparison between the Bama/Louisville game and the bball game discussed in this thread.

What Bellarmine makes is important because they don't do the deal to lose money. We played Bama in Orlando for cash and exposure since its unlikely we'd have a home and home with them any time soon. Playing at Freedom Hall and the Yum changes nothing for Bellarmine vs Louisville. Its going to be a largely pro UofL crowd anyway and its not like we wouldn't agree to bring them into the Yum.

For UofL's perspective its unlikely that the game would make more money than just playing in the Yum. You'd still have to give Bellarmine a cut of the profit which would likely be similar or more than they'd get if we write them a check. Even if you managed to pack the arena its a lower amount than would be possible in the Yum. We still have to pay the Yum's annual rent even if we played one game in Freedom Hall. It would be like renting an appartment to save money on your manison but you'd still be paying the mortgage.

Other than you dreaming of going back to raggedy Freedom Hall, it actually doesn't make a ton of fiscal sense to anyone to play Bellarmine in FH.
