Following its third straight NCAA Super Regional appearance to close the 2015 season, the Louisville baseball program began preparations for 2016 by releasing the team’s summer baseball assignments.

The Cardinals have 25 underclassmen assigned to five different wooden bat leagues as well as the USA Collegiate National Team this summer. Leading the way are sophomore pitcher Zack Burdi and sophomore outfielder Corey Ray, who have accepted roster spots with Team USA, while freshman lefthanded pitcher and first baseman Brendan McKay will report to the USA team trials on June 18 looking to earn one of the final openings on the 24-man squad.

In what has become the norm each summer, Louisville will once again have a strong representation in the Cape Cod League with six players assigned to four different teams in 2015 with the possibility of a seventh player to be added. Lefty pitcher Josh Rogers and outfielder/infielder Nick Solak will play for the Bourne Braves, while McKay will join them if not selected for Team USA. Outfielder Colin Lyman and catcher Will Smith are slated to play for the Brewster Whitecaps, lefty Drew Harrington will pitch for the Wareham Gatemen and infielder Blake Tiberi will play for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks.

The Cardinals have six players assigned to two clubs in the New England Collegiate League this summer. Utility player Austin Clemons, shortstop Devin Hairston, outfielder and catcher Riley Jackson and righty pitcher Sean Leland will compete for the Vermont Mountaineers, while righties Lincoln Henzman and Kade McClure play for the Keene Swamp Bats.

For the first time in several years, Louisville will send players to the Northwoods League as six Cardinals are assigned to three different teams. Infielder Danny Rosenbaum and outfielders Ryan Summers and Logan Taylor are scheduled to play for the Green Bay Bullfrogs. Righty pitcher Chandler Dale and catcher Colby Fitch will play for the Lakeshore Chinooks, while pitcher Jake Sparger is assigned to the Rochester Honkers.

A trio of Louisville players will play in the Coastal Plain League with infielders Drew Ellis and Grant Schreiver playing for the High Point-Thomasville HiToms and lefty pitcher Butch Baird assigned to the Wilson Tobs. One member of the Cardinals will compete in the Perfect Game League as first baseman Michael Bollmer will play for the Albany Dutchmen.

Following the completion of the collegiate summer season, players will return to campus for the fall semester in late August to continue the Cardinals' preparation for 2016. In its inaugural season in the ACC in 2015, Louisville set a conference record for league wins in a single season finishing with a 25-5 mark overall to win the Atlantic Division. Chosen as a national seed for the second time in school history, the No. 3 Cardinals finished 47-18 overall after falling just short of a third straight College World Series berth with an NCAA Super Regional loss at Jim Patterson Stadium.
