Word is out that Washington and Oregon have applied now to join the B1G. So that puts the B1G at 18 schools. Assuming they want to get to 20, my guess is they'll get interest from Stanford and Cal. They'll take Stanford but hold the 20th spot momentarily to see if ND can wiggle out of the ACC Grant Of Rights (GOR) deal through 2036. If not, then Cal gets the last spot. The remaining PAC 12 schools will be there for the picking and the Big 12 is in the best position with their GOR ending in the next two years. Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Utah, Oregon State, and Washington State all looking for a new home. With the Big 12 at 12 schools they'll look to grab Arizona, AZ State, Colorado, and Utah. Very solid additions.

Unfortunately, the ACC GOR is a blessing and a curse. GOR is one hell of a good way to keep schools from moving, giving up your media rights is a BIG deal. Even Texas and OU weren't willing to forgo their final two years of media rights and are opting to stay two more years until the Big 12 GOR contract ends.

The ACC GOR is going to ultimately hold the conference in place into the 2030's with the GOR agreed thru 2036. At the same time it's going to potentially prevent the ACC from making a play for existing Big 12 schools or the remaining PAC 12 schools because you only add members in order to renegotiate your tv deal. Once you scrap the old deal and the associated GOR everything resets and schools like Clemson, FSU, Virginia, UNC, VT, and Miami will plum for the picking by the SEC.

So what do you do? Watch the Big 12 add four really solid PAC 12 schools and in the process become superior to the ACC while the clock continues to tick towards 2036? Maybe that's the right play as things will most likely shift again?

Unless ND agrees to become a full member of the ACC, I just don't see how you can add schools w/o opening up the GOR deal and losing schools in the process.
