93.9 the ville

I started listening to these guys a month ago and never looked back. I used to listen to 790 and then a friend told me abt this station. Crazy the difference. Not as meat headish, if that's a description. They also get the actual coaches on there to speak.

Anyhow, has anyone ever met John Ramsey. He seems like a legitimately awesome dude with a great positive outlook on life. Is this how he is in person ? He wasn't on today, so I only listened briefly.

Listened briefly to 93.9 but got annoyed by Ramsey trying to be the Matt Jones of UofL.

I used to loathe local sports talk radio. I rarely ever miss R&R, however. I don't think Howie would be too upset since different time slots. He and Matt and Katie compete with Deener. I will say the guy on with Rutherford today, Ramsey's fill in, sucked. Ramsey, if I may speak like I'm from the 1950's, is a square. But, he and Rutherford work.

I love the show. They are Card first and it is a nice change of pace to actually hear Louisville related news. We do not get Louisville sports news from any other source so it is media central for Card fans.

It's a big enough world (town) for both "stations" to survive, esp. in the world of podcasts. Agree 100% about Howie and R&R...

I really like Howie and his head to head competition is simply over the top (Deener). Not sold yet on Nick Coffey and I've gotten to where I have a very difficult time with the "Underdogs". Now on the other than the R&R show is pretty good as Rutherford is very knowledgeable and Ramsey is acceptable. Ramsey is a good guy and anybody that intimidates Marty Bangs is good in my book. ESPN680's Bob Valvano seems to be a good guy but he floats all over the place with his subjects and I just don't care about many of them especially when he starts talking about NYCity professional teams. And Lachlame and his sidekick are sickening and the worst in this marketplace.

I strongly agree. That's why I briefly listened to it. It was hard to listen to.

The lack of sports knowledge on underdogs is evident. I see the lead dude at my gym all the time, I don't understand all the "great hair" and "good looking " comments about himself.

What time does Howie come on ? I'm going to start listing to that as well. Also, I agree, Mayben is a class act. Another very positive sounding guy.

I agree, it's awful. I don't like hiphop as a genre but I do like some hiphop songs. That intro song is like a third-rate RunDMC song with bad mid-80's production value.

I know John, used to be his neighbor...throws a huge Halloween party every year and has more Muhammad Ali memorabilia (signed gloves, robes, poster) than I've ever seen...he is a true Louisville guy...He and his brother (lives two houses down from him) are both huge UofL fans...I lived there during the Krag debacle, so we didn't have much good UofL FB conversations. Anyway, he is the guy he is on radio and TV...super nice and community oriented.

John Ramsey is a true Cardinal fan and has been a friend of mine for over 25 years. He's good on the air because he's an entertaining and fun person to hang out with. You can pretty well put him in the middle of any social situation and he'll do great.

And he knows how to have $93.90 worth of fun with a fire extinguisher. Genius.

I'm gonna risk humiliation here... But I find myself listening occasionally to Lach and Andy Sweeney if only because of how readily and capably they hate on LPT. What makes it better is that 680 puts Lach on the LPT postgame radio shows. So their fans--the few that listen--have their show hosted by a hater. I like the paradox in that.

Howie is obviously a great listen, but the 790/Clear Channel legacy makes every other radio show on that station a problem. Coffey and Vanetti are U of L fans, and Jennings (FSU grad) is an adopted fan. But those guys are so bogged down by the LPT affiliations of CC and now Iheart...

The other thing that's difficult about LIVE streaming of Iheart is the amount of commercials, news, and unrelated U of L content they air on those shows. A podcast removes most of that, and it only consumes 2/3 of the actual airtime.
