It was supposed to beat the "mission impossible" segment, in terms of three wins, for this #5 Louisville Volleyball squad. Consecutive matches against Purdue, Kentucky and Nebraska. I hoped for the best, but, figured if we could manage to go 2-1 it would be a major accomplishment.

Bye, bye Purdue. In straight sets
See ya later, UK, in a five-set thrilling Cardinals win
And, then, the trip to Lincoln. The Cornhuskers. 8.000 + in the Devaney Center for the match.

No problem.

The Cards took straight-set wins against the #6 team in the land 25-17, 25-20, 25-18.

Anna Stevenson had a huge match, with 11 kills and six blocks and Aiko Jones (whose parents were in attendance) added 10 kills, two aces and seven blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 25-17, 25-20, 25-18 sweep of Nebraska Saturday night.

The Cardinals go to 10-0 and the sweep was the first in the Cornhuskers home arena since Wisconsin swept the Huskers on Oct. 5, 2019. The match was the biggest UofL victory over the highest ranked opponent since the Sweet Sixteen win over No. 2 ranked Texas in 2019 and the first win over Nebraska in six meetings. UofL hit .255 for the set with two aces and 12 blocks. Sophomore Anna DeBeer added 10 kills and had 13 digs. Amaya Tillman, currently the No. 4 blocker in the nation, had four kills and six blocks. Tori Dilfer had 34 assists and two blocks. Freshman Elena Scott continues to impress -- getting a match-high 14 digs at libero.

The Cards went into their house, sat in their chair, took control of the remote and drank all their lemonade.

The match marks the last non-conference match of the season with the Cardinals opening up ACC play at home with Miami on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. before taking on Florida State, which just upset No. 13 Florida, on Sept. 2.

This Cardinals Volleyball squad is something special and so fun to watch. Dressed in camouflage unis last night, they came in on a mission, took care of business and left no prisoners. Look out DI NCAA Volleyball. There is a bright and shiny star in the sky that is L-shaped.

I watched the match we were very impressive once again. Something that worries me down the road is I see a weakness when the opposing team does this. We are such a dominant blocking team that the opponent has to change tactics. Instead of slamming it against us they try to barely place it strategically over our head.
Kentucky did this in the 4th set against us and had great success, I was really surprised they didn’t continue it in the 5th set. Nebraska did the same thing with success but they also went away from it which was good for us.

Kozmas, I looked at the 4th set again and counted only 2 times did UK actually try to put the ball "over our heads". Frankly Madi Skinner and the line backer Tealer posing as a volleyball player were really slamming the ball in that set. As the announcers said in the Nebraska game the UL front line is backed up by the brilliant play of DeBeers and others.

It sure seemed like more than that it takes a while before we adjust. Our team is so good we are able to overcome it. The big test to me will be Pittsburgh that will be a barn burner. Both teams are good and both teams are familiar with one another which makes it even harder.
