Ok let me preface with the caveat that I know there will be lots of changes to the roster before the team steps on the field week 1. Some good and maybe some bad just never know in this current climate. I’ve been a little bored today and seeing all of the Holiday Bowl stuff made me start thinking about next years squad and whether we’ve upgraded, stayed the same or downgraded at every position. Everyone’s opinions are welcome and if I missed something please point out but here goes nothing.

QB- Upgraded. This is pending the health of Shough.
RB- Slight Downgrade. I like the pick up of Chaney and really like the potential of Turner/Brown/Watson/Brown, but losing Jaws and IG is a big hit. Think we may be deeper, but the sure fire star(s) isn’t there.
WR- Upgraded. Lacy is a great person to step in for Thrash and Brooks is better than any WR2 we had last year.
TE- Massive Upgrade. Don’t really need to explain much here. Redman alone elevated the room and then added some experienced depth.
OL-Slight Downgrade. This was a tough one because I really like the additions of Mills (big addition) and Nygra, but losing Miller, Tyler and Hudson is a lot of talented experience to replace. If we can get back a completely healthy Brown and Robinson is as good as some have said this grade would change.
DT- Upgraded. This is the scariest unit on the entire team imo. We were already pretty damn good with Lole, Tell, Dawson and Thomas and then you add two guys who look like they could be really good players in Thor and Geurad. My only question here is do we lose anyone? Seems almost impossible not too. Not saying it’s quite UGA or Bama type talent but this is a deep room.
Edge-Downgraded. Like Oline this is another hard one to grade. Getting Gilotte back is absolutely huge but we need more added and a star opposite Gilotte would be ideal. Reiger will be productive as usual, but he’s a complimentary guy imo. Looking forward to seeing Green get some reps, but I also think he’s maybe a year away from a real breakout.
LB-Same or slight upgrade because of experience gained by guys like Clark.
CB-Slight downgrade. Unless there is a change of heart by Riley I don’t see anyone currently on roster that can replace the star he was. Duck was also solid most of the time. Completely locked down one side of field. Thornton and a litany of young players will have to step up unless we add another.
Safety- Upgrade if MJ comes back the same. Loved Kelly but MJ is better. I’ll take the young guys and Ruffin over Minkins any day so that was addition by subtraction imo.
Star- Upgrade based on Perry and others behind him gaining more experience.

Specialist-Same. This is a place where I’d really like to see us find a way to upgrade. FG kicking was a nightmare a majority of season.

Overall- Slight Upgrade. Think we need to add another OT, CB, Edge (or 2), RB and WR to bump up the grade. If we rolled into season with this I think we’re in for a good year, but schedule is tougher so I’d see something around 8-4 and I know all of us including coaches are hungry for more.

ONCE AGAIN I was bored and KNOW there’s plenty of changes to come. Don’t go crazy on me.lol
