Freshman point guard Fabio Basili wasn't on the bench as U of L eventually fell to the Hurricanes 93-85. On Monday, team spokesperson Zach Greenwell confirmed that Basili didn't make the trip with the team "in order to fulfill academic obligations."

Basili is expected to dress with the team for Louisville's next game against No. 8 Virginia at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the KFC Yum! Center, Greenwell said.

"(Basili) has to know the plays," Payne said. "He has to know exactly what we're running, when we're running, where each player on the court is. It can't just be, 'You just out there playing.' That's not going to work. It's just not. He's confident. He works hard. But he has to have a certain knowledge of what we're doing with concepts and structure and what's going on on the court."

I don’t think he was at the Pitt game either. Explains why he can’t find the court. The other thing is this can’t happen in the future as they evaluate kids. I think they took a flyer on him but they can’t do it again there is no room for error as they build the roster.

Another terrific KP take on the perceived lack of accountability. Blaming KP and the professors for Fabio being behind in school and on the court is ridiculous. Fabio is a kid that needs to mature which for some kids takes time. That is OK.
