Why When Cooler Heads Prevail, Jurich should stay...

Never been a huge John Ramsey supporter, but I do believe that Jurich should be retained, for a few key reasons:

1) None of Jurich's direct hires have been implicated in one, much less two, of these issues. You have to take responsibility for your hires, which is why Rick unfortunately must be dismissed immediately. Two direct hires making huge errors in judgement in a short window falls on you. Jurich is removed to the point of what should reasonably be under his control.

2) If you go back to when Jurich was hired, or even just 10 years ago, would you still make the hire? The answer is emphatically, yes, I believe for most people. Myself included. Several college world series runs, exciting football seasons with several huge wins, along with many more accomplishments from across the UofL sports scene.

3) Would he be hired by another top school? I think we all know the answer to this. My guess is he would be snapped up before the ink was dry on his buyout.

My two cents...

If Jurich stays......we will come out ok. Im not saying he should or shouldn't but if he goes, it just makes the battle even harder.

I do think he butts heads with some of the new admin and this is their chance to oust him and I think hes gone. Hope im wrong because we will lose more coaches if thats the case in other sports.

Losing TJ will have a ripple effect across the entire department when it comes to coaches. Think about all of the top flight coaches that he has hired that have elevated their sport to national prominence - McDonnell, Walz, Albarado, etc, etc, etc.

Those people have quality job offeres coming at them annually - I’ve got to believe that the reason they stay is at least in part to loyalty to Jurich - because they know with him, it’s a two way street. It’s sadly ironic that if Jurich does get fired, it will be in great part to his loyalty.

Is the university interested in potentially taking dramatic steps back in more than men’s basketball? There shouldn’t be some rush to judgement to clean house that includes Jurich. The fact of the matter is that he could always be fired - there’s no need to do it right this second.

Athletics has been the tail that wags the dog. Postel is determined to stop that. UofL basketball just handed him the opportunity on a silver platter.

Postel is determined to do whatever Grissom tells him to do so that he can get the “interim” removed from his title.

Yesterday I thought Jurich needed to be gone. All the problems have been with Pitino/the basketball program. That tumor needs removed unfortunately. People who want Jurich gone, I understand the anger and I get that emotionally. But you have to be careful what you wish for. Louisville is a top program in pretty much EVERYTHING because of Jurich. Do you really want to lose all of these coaches that Tom hired? Do we want to fight it out with Boston College for the bottom of the ACC in football? If Jurich stays, the hurricane will hit but the storm will be weathered and the overall health of the athletic program is fine longterm.

THIS x 100000!

No question he should stay. What, exactly has that man done? He turned UL into the premier college sports destination for top collegiate athletes. The city of Louisville has capitalized off his success. He's a big part of the community.

I want him to stay 100% but when you talk about CRP being responsible for the two asst coaches, well who is responsible for CRP. If we don't clean house, our program will still have a shadow around it unfortunately. Also the head coach doesn't negotiate the apparel deal, the AD does. As long as Jurich is still around, U of L will always be associated with money and not education. I understand that sports is a business but you can't take shortcuts. Just my two cents.

I feel the same way. I want TJ to stay too, but I'm not naive enough to justify him being retained. He is part of the current landscape at UofL and it now has been tied to criminal activities. This is beyond NCAA violations. Those are ethical in nature most of the time. This is way more serious. Federal laws have been broken and UofL's basketball program has been linked to it. It's time for everyone to go. A clean fresh start is going to be painful and it'll weed out the bandwagon fans. When the smoke clears, we'll see who's left as true fans.

None of college sports has an honorable image. It's why fans are turning away in herds from all things sports.

Yes but Louisville is the poster boy for this because of all the scandals. Let's be honest. And I will say this, when I saw the headline that a college basketball recruiting scandal was breaking, the first thing I thought was "Oh no, I bet Louisville is involved." And I'm a native and lifelong fan! Imagine what a non-Louisville fan thinks.

NCAA basketball in general needs a fresh start. Maybe this FBI probe is the start and it will be cleaned up and have it's image restored. Else it's going to land up in WWE land...which isn't about competition but rather entertainment.

Hardly made the paper in my location. College basketball isn't very popular in NBA/NFL towns. I too thought of UofL but not because we're corrupt. But because we have a target on our backs.

My thinking that the logic to fire Rick is the same logic that should apply to firing Jurich.

If Pitino is fired for failure of oversight and awful PR...Jurich is his boss. Jurich adamantly defended Pitino during the other bad times and put his own neck out on the line for Rick. Jurich is just as responsible as Rick.

Common sense goes a long way in life...If you can't question other people's motives than corruption is surely going to set in. The whole system looks corrupt to me.

Common sense tells me that it has been scandal after scandal within the basketball program and we just paid a recruit $100k while on probation. It is time to stop blaming others for our own sins and take ownership and fix it.

As a fan, I wouldn't want to fire Jurich because he's a proven success but I also think it's unrealistic to think you survive after what the basketball program has done.

Whether it's fair or not, an admin is going to want to clean house entirely.

It happened but this was wishful thinking on your part as a yut fan.
