Why has the Ville's basketball been demoted to ESPN3?

UL basketball is not in decline, we just won a National Title in 2013. We aren't on TV because of our schedule, the UL vs Mich St. Game will be on TV and so will most of our conference games.

LOL at the OP for thinking this program is in decline. That is freaking hilarious!! We're playing cream puffs plus the current ACC contract won't allow local TV channels to broadcast the games.

Decline....LMAO!!!

Hard to argue in head-to-heads,but how does it pertain to this thread?
It doesn't. The OP apparently thinks the UofL program is in decline because the UofL head coach doesn't land one and done talent 5 deep every year. I mean, to hell with the actual product on the court and the full body of work. Nothing else matters to the OP other than that one out of conference game played in December. Forget about the program that has the last NCAA title that is from the state of Kentucky. Those recruits and that lone insignificant game played in December means more than the post season success.

There is a really easy solution for the OP. He can go root for UofK. They got everything he'll ever need. Plenty of hype. Plenty of one and done talent, and the game means more to them in December than any game in March. It's OK OP. You can go.

Folks complaining about TV coverage need to start attending the games. Easy to get a cheap ticket to the games being played now...
Zipp I agree, kind of. That only works for the fans who live close enough to go. I live over 900 miles away. I make usually 1 game a year most years, but that's not going to happen this year. Income is down from previous years.

Say what you want but Cal is eating Rick's lunch.

I understand your sentiment, and I won't ignore your point that UK has generally bested UL in basketball. But they also have bested about every other program except Duke. So I think you need to look at the big picture. UL basketball has been a consistent top program. As others have reminded - we just won the national title in 2013. The basketball program is and has been in very good shape (I know there is a little trepidation right now given current circumstances, but UL will remain a top program). It's not fair to compare our basketball program point-for -point to UK's and conclude we're not a success unless we top UK. Currently we won't measure up to UK and neither will anyone else not named Duke. But that doesn't mean UL basketball isn't a huge success - it is. We need to remember to be thankful for what we have and not envious of what we don't.

Yeah, I understand that and obviously wasn't referring to out-of-town fans. I used to be one of those guys for more than a decade. And back in the late 80s and 90s, I would have KILLED for things we now take for granted like ESPN3 and audio streams...

Louisville men's basketball is in decline just like in Denny's last days.

LMAO. This guy. Oh man you just blew or should I say "blue" your cover right there with that post, troll.

So UofL just won a National Championship 2 years ago, and went to the Elite 8 just LAST SEASON, and is in one of their best stretches of basketball success in history- Final Four, Championship, Sweet 16, Elite 8- and you're saying UofL basketball is in decline? Hahaha, if that is decline then almost any other basketball program in the country would kill to be in that type of "decline".

Sad day for Louisville basketball indeed.
ESPN/ACC contract contains tier 2 and some tier 3 programming, while in the past CUSA/BE/AAC tier 2-3 basketball games were not worth ESPN's time and not included in the contract. This allowed UofL to bundle these BBall games and sell them to local programmers.

Most of ESPN's tier 2 programming is on ESPN3 since they only have a few cable channels.

I don't understand the reluctance from viewers to streaming content. Awfully easy.

2 of UK's games have been on ESPN3 this year so far, not like U of L has been the only ones. It's just a product of early season cream puffs and competition with NBA games and other things on ESPN. I definitely wouldn't call it a demotion.

Streaming is pretty easy and good quality these days and, they are getting high enough viewer numbers to keep doing it. It's a way for them to show more games with the same number of actual TV channels.

Say what you want but Cal is eating Rick's lunch.

Calipari is eating everyone's lunch but Rick and Coach K deliver in April when it counts. UK is not an NCAA program, but more like a D league team! Love the look of this team. Incredible quality depth and Rick can play many styles by March. Fear DaVille at tourney time!

I use a ROKU 2, and watch on my big screen. Works well.

Go CARDS and go away WILKIE....Your team is on ESPN3 next.

Dude I am a 1977 Loisville grad. I have 5 season tickets in football. None in basketball. I will ask you when was the last time Louisville start the year not in the Top 30 nd was also involved in a basketball scandle. Some of you need to get your head out of your rears.

get your head out of your rears.

Apparently your head has been in yours for years now.

You don't know the difference between Denny Crum's final season where he went like, 12-20 as opposed to Pitino's last season where he lost in the E8 in OT. You actually compared the two. You're a boob. Post boobs with your boob posts next time and maybe we'll cut you some slack.

And even more laughable is your inability to comprehend ESPN basketball scheduling.

Really, just go away you're humiliating yourself.

Not lying and dude I have a right to think its time to correct the problems in our basketball programs. I have been supporting football since 1971. I watch basketball because football season is over.

Football season isn't over. There are still 2 games plus a bowl game. Seems like maybe you should concentrate on 1 sport at a time, and maybe you should join 2015 since live streaming is the here and now. It's not going away and it certainly isn't a demotion. It's called the present. Join us!

Oh, and I'm not dude. That title belongs to Jeff Bridges.

Man, I love the Cards. I have been a Louisville fan since 1971 and I always will. I'm a donor and true fan. but I am not a homer like the UK fans. We a few issues to clear up on our basketball program, The Cards will always be my team.

Not sure of what you are trying to say with this line ?!?!

As an out-of-towner, I'm really glad for ESPN3. Not long ago, these first few Card games wouldn't have been available at all for us. The announcers are pretty lame (though not as bad as the Pitt FB game announcers), but who cares so long as we get to see them.

Awfully easy if the game isn't blacked out in my area.

If you live out-of-town, ESPN3 is a godsend.

If you're local, it shouldn't matter. Tickets for these games are dirt cheap and plentiful. You shouldn't need to watch it on TV...

Try listening to Dave (Buzz) Baker and Joe Dean Jr. It would be good for helping you put your young ones down for the night. It did me and I am 61.
