Who Honestly

Who honestly thought we would go 3-1 in a four game stretch against BC, WF, Clemson and VA? Honestly, not me. This team has got some huge cajones!!!!

One caveat, before the season, i picked UofL to win 4 games

EKU, WKU, NC State and SuCkS.

Once i saw how they played against ND, i amended it to 6 wins.
After they beat Wake, i called 9 wins.

I’m with you. I picked us to only win 4 games. Was hoping we could steal one in October, but 3-1 was not something I even imagined

Believe it or not, nine wins would put us in the TOP 25. Now, after last year, that’s totally unbelievable. But, guess what, I’ll sure as hell take it.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

With what we're seeing this season, it really brings into focus how bad the coaching was last year. I said it all along that this team had the talent to win. The great thing is, THIS IS JUST COACH SATTERFIELD'S FIRST SEASON!

You know how many people laughed or blew me off when I said the same thing.

Preseason, I had them at 5-6 going into the KY game needing a win to go bowling. Depending on MC's health, that might still be the outcome. If he comes out of the bye week healthy, I think they can win 7 or 8 games and get a decent bowl. We should have Hall back, so I'm optimistic. 7-5.

I didn’t think they wound beat Wake but felt good about the Virginia game. Definitely didn’t think they would win both. The product on the field is still a work in progress but they are playing hard and trying to do the right thing.

I had no doubt Satterfield was the right guy just like I think Kansas St hired the right guy. Both are program builders. They aren’t guys that were assistants at bigger schools that weren’t blest with the best talent. They have won with less. Their players have to be in the right spot every time. The players have do everything right or they have no shot. They don’t out talent anyone they out execute everyone.

The only 2 questions are can they recruit enough talented players that fit their scheme and can they maintain the staff for 3-4 years?

  1. Yes, they can. But will they?
  2. Very difficult. These guys will have opportunities. They’ve left other places. They can leave here too.

no way this is the same team, take off the names on the jersey, couldn't guess, and sure isn't the same q b coach

In their defense, the coaches were overpaid and not ACC quality.
Doesn’t matter the endeavor - sport or business - no one is going to provide maximum effort for leaders who have demonstrated they don’t care about them. What you add the level of inexperience and incompetence that permeated last year’s coaching staff - it’s no surprise the season turned out the way it did.

Thank goodness Tyra canned them and brought in CSS and his staff.

That was on the coaches. A few guys quitting would be one thing but the entire team is a completely different animal. That doesn't just happen without the coaches doing something really wrong.

That's the same thing as performing poorly on the job and blaming your boss.

"That's why I forgot to put the mayo on your sandwich."

Let's forget why I'm here, what my future holds, and that people are watching me...

Quite honestly, the roster was built to win big in 2017, but the first disastrous thing that happened was that we lost to UK at home at the end of 2016 when the defense failed to show up. That was possibly the final straw that blew apart the great team of Petrino as OC and Grantham as DC. Then came the disastrous hire of Peter Sirmon. The deficiencies of Sirmon might have been masked by having a healthy Jaire Alexander all year, but of course we lost him for all but a few games when he was injured against Purdue.

2018 could have been a reloading year versus a rebuilding one IF Grantham had stayed, Alexander had not been injured, and UofL had won the ACC title, beating Clemson on our own field. In that alternate reality, our recruiting would have been much better, and our very young 2018 team might have struggled early but rebounded in the second half with all of the talented depth and great coaching from Petrino and Grantham.

The guys on other teams had scholarships as well. The big difference was in quality of coaching and leadership development. We were deficient and derelict on both accounts. That’s why coaching staffs get paid millions of dollars.

None of that changes the fact that the coaches werent doing something right. If the entire workforce turns on the boss, its probably the boss.

Actually I think the players made an conscious decision not to play for the previous staff. The players are starting to understand they have the power. They used that power last year to get their coaches fired.

This year they have decided to trust the staff. That trust was earned by the coaches. Once their is genuine trust in the staff players will follow because they know their future lies with the staff.

I think players believed in Petrino initially but something happened over time that broke that trust.

The thief not only sabotaged the players but his own staff.
Add to it that he didnt recruit, especially here in Louisville.

He gave up on the players first, in return the players gave up on him.

I didn't think we would be 3-1 in that stretch, preseason I said 5-7 after Notre Dame I rethought and said maybe 6-6, now who knows. I think we could win out or just as easily go 1-3 but I know this team won't quit and I like our chances in every game.
