Unless of course the undefeated Hoosiers are in the playoffs, I can see an effort to have these two teams face off in a bowl game. Not sure if it's possible with bowl and conference affiliations. Has the Cards ever played a Big 10 team in a bowl game?

But knowing IU got out of playing Louisville this season and since they're so close to each other, that would be an intriguing contest. IU will probably finish with just one loss as they play nobody except OSU. They could be 11 and 1 and be the 3rd best team in the Big 10 after Oregon and OSU.

IU maybe a top 5 team. They are destroying teams. Zero games where they look bad. Very impressed.

They are a good example of favorable schedule and the right group of transfers can make a team legit.

If I was an IU fan at this point, I'd be pretty disappointed with that matchup...
Of course you would. No one here is surprised at that opinion.

Thing is, IU's schedule has got to be the weakest in Big 10 history. No Oregon, Penn state or Illinois or Iowa or Minnesota or even Wisconsin. They play Michigan who looks like will end up 6 and 6. The only team they play with a pulse is OSU.

As for the Rose Bowl, there's no Pac 10 so who would play the big 10 representive? IU's schedule may as well be a group of five teams schedule. If they get beat handily against OSU, I don't see them in the Rose Bowl but I could be wrong.

Taking out the FCS team, IU's opponents are 31 wins and 39 losses. They still play a 5 and 4 Michigan and 1 and 7 Purdue. And OSU, the only team currently bowl eligible on IU's schedule.

Even if they finish 11 and 1, they will be behind Oregon, OSU and Penn State. Seems to me a possible matchup with a 9 and 3 Louisville team would be their 2nd toughest game all year.

IU hasn’t played anybody. Sad that conference is that weak. If they make the playoffs it will be a joke.
Big 10 is not weak. OSU, Oregon, Penn State, and Illinois are ranked. Elite programs USC, Michigan and Washington are the average teams this season. There's only two really bad teams in Purdue and Northwestern.

Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Maryland are all probably going to a bowl game.

IU just happened to play big time schools who are having a down year.

I know exactly what he means.

When we made the Orange Bowl and were still “little ‘ol’ Louisville” WE were disappointed because we “got” to play Wake Forest…..

Not Miam. Not FSU, Not even (at that time) Va Tech.

We had to play Wake Forest 🤷‍♂️

As “nobody” as we were at the time, we felt we deserved a “better” opponent to show what we had.

You really think IU fans would be excited about playing the “little “ school down road?

Personally, I would be disappointed playing them, a “one hit wonder” in a bowl.

I'll turn it around for ya then...

Texas Tech and Cincy are positioned in The Big XII about where we are in the ACC presently. Would you be happy with those matchups?...
Of course IU fans would rather play a bigger program than Louisville, but they also know losing to Louisville would be much harder to bare.

IU fans are just happy to be a good team after decades of bad football. The OSU game will tell the tale.

I agree that IU’s competition is unremarkable, but 9-0 is worthy of respect and the manner in which they are winning deserves top 5 consideration. What are some of you going to do when they beat OSU? Seriously, be careful discounting this Hoosier team ……… their opponents are not just getting beat; they are being dominated.

Oh I agree that IU can't do much more than they've been doing to teams. They're dominating them like a vintage Alabama or Oklahoma team would do to that schedule. And if they beat OSU, they're right there in the playoff.

I just don't think they will. I think it's very similar to what Clemson just experienced. That weak schedule doesn't prepare well against a team just as good or better. Big difference is IU will not be a 10 point favorite.

I think it may be close but OSU has already played Oregon and Penn State. The Hoosiers best win is over 5 and 4 Washington.

They have so many JMU transfers- what kind of a team would they be if they had all those guys? Pretty impressive.

I agree IU is legit. Let’s see how big of a dog they are to Ohio St in 2 weeks. That will give you an indication. They have been lucky in avoid Oregon and Penn St but they are still crushing teams.

The Rose Bowl is a playoff quarterfinal, so no Big Ten team that does not make the playoffs will be going there….

But unless IU loses two of their last three (at home against Michigan, at Ohio State and at Purdue), they will be in the playoffs as at least an at large team.

Disrespect them all you want. They’re blowing out Big Ten teams at home…
They’ve done it largely through the portal. It will be interesting to see how they sustain this as time passes and their coach gets farther away from his time at James Madison and less able to pull key players from that program.

You think the Big 10 will get three teams in the playoffs?

Oregon
OSU
IU
Penn state

If IU loses to OSU and Penn State doesn't lose again, you think IU would be the third team over Penn state?

I think IU has to beat OSU and of course the other two remaining games to make the playoff. Penn States remaining schedule is lite and I don't see Oregon losing.

I expect an 11-1 Big Ten team with their only loss to Ohio State on the road will make the playoffs. Whether that means 4 Big Ten teams or 3 will be up to the committee. I expect there’s going to be a fair few 2 and 3 loss SEC teams that are not going to be happy, but that’s what they chose when they created their super conference.

OSU: Purdue, @ Northwestern, Indiana, and Michigan. 3 home games and one away. IU has to beat them to get in or hope Micheegan pulls the upset.

Oregon: Maryland, @ Wisconsin, Washington...they will win out unless one can pull the upset

PSU: Washington, @Purdue, @Minnesota, Maryland. Need for one of these dreds to pull the upset for IU

IU: Michigan, @ OSU, Purdue...upset the Bucs and win the other two and they have to be in. Lose one of those three and then it becomes very iffy for them even with one loss to OSU. Unless the BIG does get 3 in.

I am pulling for IU to win out (sic) hope one of the dregs upset the Ducks. Then IU has to be in as an unbeaten reg season champ I would think

Especially if the ACC and B12 have a couple of zero or one loss teams too. SEC will go catatonic and whine like banshees

Can't see 4 Big 10 teams in the playoff. IU's horrible schedule just cannot be ignored. To only play one team with a pulse is just not going to cut it.

I think their best chance is if Minnesota beats Penn State. The Gophers are very good at home. The Hoosiers have to beat OSU and finish undefeated in my opinion, but you never know.

So … does IU get snubbed at 11-1 with their only loss to Ohio State on the road, while Notre Dame with the same record gets in, even though their one loss was to Northern Illinois at home?

Hoosiers get the nod for that at large spot if we’re picking between those two….

I agree ND should not get in over IU, but the issue is IU is a Big 10 team. If they were in the Big 12, they would be in with one loss.

I just don't believe the first 12 team playoff will have four teams from one conference, especially the Big 10. If it were the SEC, I think that would be different.

I don't know. They may pick all four teams but I will be surprised if they do.

As great a season it has been for the Hoosiers, they have to feel a bit of bad luck that Michigan and Washington are not the teams they were last season.

Maybe it's a curse for getting out of the Louisville game? A win over the Cards would have helped their cause tremendously. Thing is, a loss would have derailed them just three games in.

If Indiana goes 11-1, won’t they play in the B1G championship game? If they lose to Ohio State and again to Ohio State in the championship, they shouldn’t be in. I hope the committee realizes that Indiana paid us not to play them and they then signed western Illinois instead.

Currently, Oregon is the top seed and they would play either OSU, IU or Penn State.

If IU beats OSU, the Buckeyes are out and Penn State would need IU to lose to face the Ducks.

For IU to play for the Big 10 championship with one loss they would need upset losses by the others.

Looking at the remaining games, here's what's likely to happen.

Oregon defeats Maryland, Wisconsin and Washington. They're the top seed in the Big 10.

OSU defeats Purdue, Northwestern, IU and Michigan. They would be the 2nd seed and play Oregon for the championship.

Penn State defeats Washington, Purdue, Minnesota and Maryland but would be behind OSU due to their loss to OSU.

Indiana defeats Michigan and Purdue but loses to OSU, eliminating them from the championship game.

So basically, IU has to be undefeated to play in the title game, unless of course there's some upsets that would definitely clutter things a bit. However, just don't see any upsets possible except maybe Minnesota beating Penn State.

I just don't see IU making the title game if they lose to OSU.

I forgot about Oregon being in the Midwest lol

Tonights rankings will be very telling. Also the SEC has a couple of loser leaves town coming up. Loser of Bama and LSU is OUT and Ole Miss and UGA will be very telling. And Next week Tenn/UGA.

I absolutely think Texas will lose another game, as well.

Only schools that I think are a lock right now to make playoffs, IMHO, are Oregon, OSU, ND, Miami, Penn St, and Boise St bc of where they are ranked and the only one I can see losing a game is Miami and I think they can afford 1 loss.

Conference championship games are going to be very interesting in how they rate a loss in a conf 'ship making a team potentially 10-3 over a team that didnt make it sitting there at 10-2. What will happen?!?!

I think BYU is a lock unless they lose two games. They should win their last four games against some disappointing teams like Utah, Oklahoma state and Kansas, but all they have to do is win the Big 12 and they're in.

They have beaten Kansas State so they have the TB on them.

The last time IU was this good was in 1967, when they went 9-1, with a blowout loss in Minnesota. They finished in a 3-way tie for first in the conference with Purdue (Mike Phipps and LeRoy Keys) and Minnesota.IU got the Rose Bowl invite since they had never been and Purdue had gone just the previous year. The gophers had been many times. There they lost to O.J. Simpson and USC, 14-3. They had some notable players including QB Harry Gonso, RB John Isenbarger and receiver Jade Butcher. It was when I first took notice of the sport and began a lifelong love of all things pigskin. Memories…

Committee rankings have IU at #8 - projected as in the CFP as the 9 seed. It’s very unlikely that they will fall out of the playoffs with an 11-1 record and a competitive loss at OSU, but if they lose convincingly, I would not be surprised at all to see them get bounced.

Well Push, prepared to be disappointed because if IU loses to OSU, they're not getting in. Unless of course there are upsets at the top.

There is just no way I can forsee a program like IU who may as well be a group of 5 team with their schedule and their history, get in over 2 loss programs like Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas and Clemson. I don't see them getting in over 1 loss teams like BYU and ND, assuming BYU loses one game.

It's not right but it's the reality of college football. IU needs a big win and OSU is their only chance. It's just bad luck that Michigan and Washington are so down this season.
