Player acquisition usually follows one of two approaches: 1) get the best available player regardless of position, or 2) fill a need. Since it isn’t possible to do trades in college (the last domino to fall in the move toward a total pro system) I say you have to fill needs. You can’t acquire excess corners, for example, and package one in a trade with Iowa State for a recruit to be named later.
