Once again the top volleyball player in Kentucky ( the Gatorade player of the year in Kentucky) is from Assumption High School. Kristin Simon who would be a good replacement for Elena Scott is not going to Louisville instead she will be going to Wisconsin. I don’t know why we are losing the top players in Kentucky ( seems like they are all from Louisville) to the other top schools in the country. I would have loved to have had her, a Louisville kid who is ranked as one of the best in the country who plays the same position as Elena Scott and we can’t get her.

Would be interesting to hear why. Could be some just want to go away for college. Maybe she got good NIL. Maybe the opportunity to play is more immediately available. My understanding is Shrand is more than ready to step into Scott’s vacancy and she has two years left (I believe).

Some youngsters out of high school want to travel outside their hometown. They want to have somewhere that may become a 2nd home. I was like this as a 18 year old looking to go to college.

I was close to attending Dayton but out of state costs eventually halted that. I ended up going to WKU and I was a Cards fan. I just wanted to experience somewhere else, knowing Louisville would always be my home.

Well, a year at WKU didn't do it for me, so I ended up enlisting in the US Army. I got my traveling in and after six years, I've been in Louisville ever since.

This VB player may be a Cards fan but wants to experience life outside of Louisville?

This just seems to be a trend for the past 3 years now, top Louisville volleyball players are going to other programs when one of the top programs is right here. In this recent case if she is as good as she is ranked Louisville is the perfect opportunity for her since Scott has graduated. I really don’t remember Schrand getting that much playing time at the libero position.

She didn’t…because we had one of the top two liberos in the country playing for us.

Scott. Before the season, the discussion was if Shrand was anywhere else she’d be a starting libero and be a very good libero. Elena was one of the two best liberos in the country. Shrand wasn’t displacing her.

We lost the top 2 female basketball players to Notre Dame and LSU. I could understand this
if volleyball and basketball were mediocre, but both are among the best in the nation.

Certainly. I am not saying that. Just discussing the playing time perspective. I agree with you that it is odd that another local talent is bolting from town. Our vb program is top…what 5-10 in the country. Some are ready to take in that spotlight in their hometown - others are not.
