I dont care who the coach is. I dont want to see any sympathy for DP after this game. This team is undisciplined, turnovers expected, don't care, and have fun even if they lose. ZERO offensive scheme. ZERO defense. ANY COACH IN AMERICA SHOULD BEAT THIS SIENNA TEAM BY 15+ AND WOULD BE UP RIGHT NOW with the talent and length we have.
I predict we will beat them by more than 15. However I agree the lack of effort has been terrible.

It is a forty minute game, Kerry, but they won't win many more games playing only 15 of them.

How about Anas? I think he sucks and Padgett basically felt the same way. DP said he didn’t think Anas played that well. Let’s also look at the opponent, etc.
Don’t get me wrong, I would LOVE to see our bigs play well, make millions, etc. But, IMO those guys are our downfall. I guess DP is forced to play them or go super small. I dread ACC play, Bagley will anihilate us. Anas is a damn senior, but he definitely doesn’t hit me as a guy who gets too excited about basketball. Too laid back for me.

I am not sure what expectations you should have with Anas or Ray. They aren't good shooters, not very skilled in the block and ok rebounders. That is who they are and this belief they aren't trying or care is false. Do they have their lazy moments sure but overall I believe they are doing the best they can with their skill level. Everyone can improve, how to get players to play better is the challenge for all coaches year in and year out. These guys are still learning about Padgett and vice versa.
They are very good right but let's see how the season unfolds. Losing your mind over 1 bad half of basketball seems stressful. Look around college basketball teams lose to inferior opponents on a nightly basis....Florida 2 straight games. Mike White is still a really good coach.

And we did. I think someone spoke to soon. So maybe DP should quit. Whose going to walk in and turn this around the week before the season started. I’m sure the players are having issues with motivation. I know the fans are because lots aren’t showing up. And here’s a news flash it’s going to get worse over the next several years.
Oh by the way DP most of done something at the half because that was a different team in the second half.

Indeed it was a different team in the 2nd half. Must have been some serious butt chewed at half. I saw a lot more focus and sense of urgency in the 2nd half.
Florida and Kansas both went down at home last night. It is still early.
Good post Kerry. The first half was hard to watch, but the second half rekindled my hopes for a good season. Anas was one block shot away from a triple-double, which there have only been 4 in the history of UofL basketball.
Sienna is not a good basketball team, and right now neither are the Cards and we still won by 26 points after holding a 3 point edge at halftime. The second half team is what we will eventually see for 40 minutes. It's just going to take some time to bring it together.

Here's the thing. Coach DP has been more of a friend than a coach to these players throughout the course of their relationships. It is probably hard to come down on them like he needs to because of that dynamic. I think, I hope, that at halftime we saw a growth in Coach DP and that divide between coach & friend between him and the players grew. Yes, Sienna, but the difference between H1 and H2 is undeniable. Whatever CDP did at halftime was the difference between possibly losing to a 2-5 MAAC team and blowing them out by nearly 30 points. That's significant in terms of getting a reaction out of his players.
Based on my experience with coaching young adults now, it used to be that the head coach or even a principal of a school was given respect for his position because that’s the way we were raised. Now, kids don’t feel that the positions need respect, the person who is in that position has to earn it. I’m sure some of these kids have been told who DP is and what he has accomplished, which is a lot more than most but not even close to where CRP is. It is hard to be successful in that environment.
It's about time. No previous game or the first half told you that we'd look like a different team than we have all season in the 2nd half.
The news was reporting that player stated that Padgett broke his clipboard. So I think Padgett grew up some last night as a coach. He needed to let them know he’s not their buddy. I guess he did. We see going forward.
Except Padgett had enough broke a clipboard and apparently laid down the law. It’s not easy going from a no experience head coach to filling the shoes of a HOF coach. Fans are going to have to be patient or you’ll go crazy. There’s going to be some rough times a head. Will just have to ride the wave.
Yes. It broke it yesterday, pulled the players into the huddle literally, and yelled. It's about time he did that. If he did that before Seton Hall game or Purdue. We would've won. He isn't being a friend of them anymore, and that's a good thing. Hope it continues.
And that is the maturing as a coach which is why being patient is a must. You act as if he interviewed for this position. We were in a tough spot and there’s only one person to blame and that’s Rick Pitino. Not Padgett. I’m sure he’s doing his best and I bet he’s a quick study.
My memory banks say he was that as a player. Quick study.....and smart player who got the most out of his physical abilities. Exemplified Johny U's: "Talk is cheap, lets play the game MO. IF he gets the players to play with that mindset, IF......a big IF, the sky could be the limit for this team. We shall see.

What the hell do I know but I think UL starts to gel and becomes the team most of you thought in late January. ACC schedule will be tough but I think those games will strengthen them and make the team tougher.
