Almost the "Nightmare on Main Street" last night, with Louisville getting outscored by 10 in the second half and seeing their lead cut to two three times in the fourth. The WBB Cards hang on, though, for the conference-opening and 13th straight win 73-66. For flight schedules, rebounds, free throw disparity and turnovers fresh from the Main Street bakery -- let's jump to:

5 THINGS ABOUT THIS GAME

5) Does Gravity Exist for her?
Jasmine Jones continued her "air show" last night with two alley-oop scores and an incredible blocked shot on a three-point attempt. Jasmine Jones Airlines providing non-stop service to "Victory City" with 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Clear the runway, she's landing!

4) Chairwomen of the Board(s). The Cards out-rebounded a taller UNC team 45-30. Jeff Walz downplayed that, indicating that the two squads were the worst in the ACC in rebounding. Still, it's good to see Kylee Shook with 11 grabs. She's continuing her transformation from Bambi to Thumper. Sam Fuehring and Bionca Dunham combining for 12 grabs. 18 second-chance points, too

3) Which gate? When? A few were surprised when Arica Carter did not get the start and Dana Evans did. It was revealed in the post-game presser that she missed her return flight to Louisville from Christmas break and the first team meeting after the squad got back. That daggone L.A. airport! She did carry the luggage for the Cards in the final two minutes last night, though, with six of the final ten points and a key steal when UNC was threatening to cut into the Cards lead again.

2) Call 'em both ways, Bryan! UNC went to the stripe 27 times, the Cards 17. Janelle Bailey, the massive 6'4" UNC center was getting away with assault, battery, hit and run and intent to harm all night. Bryan Brunette, lead ref, was obviously watching a different game. When was the last time you saw Asia Durr pick up four fouls? Last night's crew was one that we can only hope gets assigned to the OVC or AAC the rest of the season.

1) Get 'Em While They're Hot! The Cards decided to re-open the Main Street Bakery for 2019 and produced 16 turnovers while forcing UNC into just 12. As Coach Walz says, the Cards have a better chance to score when they throw the ball to one of their own. Everyone was in the kitchen that played last night except Mykasa Robinson, who just played a minute. 16 turnover against Notre Dame or UConn = a loss. Maybe a bit rusty after two weeks off?

To Sum it up:

Yes, readers, the ACC is a tough conference. I do think UNC will make a big noise this year and knock off a few of the top-25 ranked ACC schools. They have the potential to be very good. 33% shooting isn't going to win a lot of games, though. And Bailey is just a sophomore (face palm)

For Louisville, it's the "just survive somehow" mantra to ring in the New Year. Walz refused to call the timeouts when the going got close. Maybe that's good, letting them figure it out by themselves on the court. If Louisville had lost, though -- OK, let's not go there.

So, a tale to two halves -- but a Cardinal win.

Just survive somehow. On a quiet Asia Durr night, Arica, Kylee and Jaz made the necessary noise.
