I'm not as worried about the result here as I am what we do finishing this game.Pathetic performance. 1st pitcher allowed it to start. Momentum from then on. I would've had the 1st pitcher out at 2-0 instead of 5. You could see where it was headed.
You never pull a starter that soon unless it is in an elimination game in the tournament or World Series. It would destroy a pitchers confidence. You allow the kid to work out of it if possible, plus it was only the 1st inning. We scored 7 so hypothetically we overcame those 5 early runs.Pathetic performance. 1st pitcher allowed it to start. I hear you but mid week starters get handled differently. I guarantee that DM and RW didn't want to pull him after 1/3 of an inning. The reality was that he wasn't locating and the only reason he got 1 out - was the sac bunt. He got ample opportunity to show he didn't have his stuff last night - better to get him out of there before the game was completely out of hand. You never pull a starter that soon unless it is in an elimination game in the tournament or World Series. I'm not disagreeing but relievers I understand. The college midweek starter is the guy who is most likely the guy who gets a start in either the conference tournament or if and when you go to the World Series, an elimination game to keep you from going home. Hummel is our most experience starter besides the weekend guys and if Bennett suddenly struggles or even McKay or McClure then you need another starter to step in not some guy who's worry that if he gives up a few hits or runs, he's going to be pulled. Some guys can handle it some can't.I hear you but mid week starters get handled differently. I guarantee that DM and RW didn't want to pull him after 1/3 of an inning. Pitchers are like cornerbacks - they have to have short memories - he'll be fine.
Well hopefully that doesn't happen but in the event that it does, there are plenty of pitchers on the staff they could go to and quite frankly, who have better stuff than Hummel. Those guys that will be the starters next year might just have to step up.I'm not disagreeing but relievers I understand. There are only 3 guys who have started a game besides McClure, McKAy and Bennett. Mcavene has not pitched since April 4th indicating he may be hurt. Hoeing has been pitching in relief lately and not starting and then there is Hummel who was 4-0 before the debacle last night. You can't change relievers into starters over night. It takes a different mentality.Well hopefully that doesn't happen but in the event that it does, there are plenty of pitchers on the staff they could go to and quite frankly, who have better stuff than Hummel. Agreed but as I said, a bunch of those guys are already being groomed to be starters and, some will be so next year. Good game, Cards. Not the biggest follower of Kentucky baseball but I'm a fan of anything UK, so I watched the game. You guys have a very legit team this year, can easily see you all back in the CWS.
I had my doubts going into the year that UK would be able to make any noise, but this team seems legit and the program in general seems to be heading in the right direction.
Do we only play two games every season? Or is there a third game in there somewhere? TIA
Yeah anybody remember what happened the last time they met in regional play?Twice unless they meet in the NCAA regional tournament.
GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!
Is Elliot a true Frosh or a redshirt. He is absolutely one of the guys Ghost is talking about being groomed to crack the rotation next season. He looks like a good one..I'm not sure why Elliott isn't already the midweek starter. If I had to go to my 4th starting pitcher in the postseason, he'd be the guy...
I think he's a true frosh. But you gotta go with the hot hand this time of year, and manage everyone's feelings in the dugout...Is Elliot a true Frosh or a redshirt. He is absolutely one of the guys Ghost is talking about being groomed to crack the rotation next season. He looks like a good one..

I think they are bringing him along slowly and maybe doesn't have the arm strength to start. The most he's gone this year is 3 innings. Good chance that McClure, McKay and Hentzman, maybe others are gone after this season. And I'm usually pretty hard on X guys, being one myself...![]()
