U of l purchases cabooses

Glad to see that. I never made it to tailgate in one, but they just "fit" as a visual in the stadium environment.

Agreed. And not only the “visual in the stadium environment” but the history of the property as well. And I’ve had the privilege on a few occasions to party in them. It’s a real hoot especially on a rainy/cold/hot day. I don’t tailgate any longer as I just want to get to the game prior to the National Anthem. Hey without the “game” there is NO party.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

Were folks intentionally spending the night or just too drunk to leave? I've never visited the cabooses.

Uh, spending the night? Never heard that story before. I guess if a person was too drunk to drive that would be a benefit. But isn’t being drunk in a public place a misdemeanor? Perhaps we need a better law enforcement group at the stadium parking areas. As a very young man I had moments of stupidity and over imbibed on occasion but as I aged those days came to an end. Perhaps LMPD or campus police should be checking this stuff out.

I don't so much anymore, but I used to tailgate at the Dismas Charities caboose. That caboose was like a mini-luxury home. Kitchen, den, full bath, air, beed board walls, etc. It had cushioned bench seating along the walls. A person could not only sleep there overnight, but live there on a short term basis. I think they even rent it out to jockeys during spring meet.

We should get rid of the parking on the south side of the stadium (between the stadium and tunnel). Make it a fan fest / gathering area from the time of Card March til 30 minutes prior to the game. Get food trucks and sell beer. Have the band come through there and have live music / DJ. FSU has something like this adjacent to the stadium and it’s a great way to get people near and then into the stadium on time and is a fun atmosphere after closing down your tailgates.

Being someone who parks and tailgates in a spot you want to get rid of, I, obviously oppose this idea. But, having parked there for the last 15 years, what you wish for has been a reality. There is a band/DJ, just on the other side of the tunnel. There have been food and beer trucks. It already is a gathering site for fans for Card March. However, the March heading into the stadium from the tunnel will now be premium tailgate spots, sadly. You want less of it. It’ll now be more.

That stuff on the other side of the tunnel is nothing like I’m talking about. I park not too far from there. What FSU has is a fun enough of an entertainment / gathering spot that people will stop tailgating to get up there and into the action in the hour preceding the game. Obviously this would require moving some parking spots but I’m sure folks in those spots could be adequately accommodated.

That's cool, but where is all this money coming from? I thought we were cash strapped?

How much money was being charged yearly for those cabooses? I thought I recalled that it was a yearly rental?

Well, this confirms the real goal of the Athletic Department from the start. Its demand that the cabooses be removed was smoke to put its own product there. A public lawsuit was just a strange way to conduct the negotiation.
