The Cards definitely need to shore up the transition defense and opponent fast breaks. That helped keep Wake in the game. The guys have to get back on D immediately and watch the breakaway outlet from opponents.

Better to learn in a win unlike last season when Meeks kept burning them with outlets at UNC.

I was going to make a thread about defense but I will post it here. I am glad we played Wake before UNC. That was good experience for this young team.

Our half court defense has moved way up. I was loving what I saw last night in the half court. Pitino said in the post game that he would have guessed that they shot around 27 percent when we had our half court defense set up and that's probably around the range. Wake made a lot of tough shots but nothing in the half court came easy for them. More and more you can see the guys reacting and not thinking as much.

Half court defense was solid. Transition defense was horrid. I 100% agree with the OP. The transition defense needs a ton of work. Right now any team that pushes it on us will do well.

Hate to single one guy out but when Spaulding threw an alley oop dunk to Onuaku, he just stood there and watched and then Wake broke out for a FB dunk. The announcers criticize Onuaku but he was the 2nd man down behind Lee. Blame should have gone to FR.

While they got burned I do like that they adjusted. They didn't get burned in transition late. That shows me that can be more consistent with it they just need to be aware of it.

Wake Forest's big run the floor well though and they sprinted back sometimes without really going for the rebound. Most teams won't do that.
