I know its almost impossible to tell right now, but what do you all think about our other 7 footer? Think Matz will be a rotation player next season? Pitino has said some positive things about him and he has more weight on his frame than Anas. We didn't really get much of a chance to see him do anything this season.

There is no way anyone on this board can have a valid opinion of him unless they have been to several practices.

^^^ This. I'm trying to keep a hopeful attitude towards his future, but I am having difficulty seeing how a guy who couldn't get a single meaningful minute his entire freshman year can eventually become an effective player for us. It just has a feel of a future transfer to it.

What you guys are saying is true about not really being able to have a valid opinion on Matz. I would not be surprised in the least if he did indeed transfer. He just seems sort of an enigma right now. I know he had some injury problems and problems with English not being his first language as well so maybe those factored into things.

Our center production was 312th out of 320 DI programs. He could not crack into the 3 man rotation that produced those results. I'd say that's not very promising for Matz.

He appeared in 4 games, and played 22 minutes.

To me, the biggest question is, why wouldn't they just RS him last year?

It's possible he cracks the rotation his JR or SR year.

IDK if he is eligible of a Medical RS or not but CRP has done nothing but speak positively of the big guy. I think he breaks the Rotation and possibly be the starter for the opener. Don't forget these guys will get to scrimmage and practice against Pro's this summer. I think this will do wonders for team chemistry as well as confidence. It will also give the staff an opportunity to evaluate the team as a whole. I think you see JJ, AM, and Spalding at the 4 and Onauku, Mathiang, and Stockman at the 5.

"Future transfer" out of our program. Come on, that never happens here !

For those of you who have never had to learn a foreign language, have a little compassion for this player......Norwegian is a tough enough language to learn all in itself and trying to master English with that frame of reference is not the easiest thing in the world either. Let's be a little patient and see what develops in this next year for the journey this young man is on.

He does have one thing that is going for him no matter what......you can't teach height and size.....and he certainly has that.
I am looking forward to seeing how all this plays out for him.....and if CRP thinks highly of him.....that is enough for me.

Gotta agree with davecmc! If you can't win the starting job this year how can you ever win it! That being said some want to give him a pass due to the language barrier, I'm not buying it! Once you step on the court if you're good enough you're playing will do the talking for ya!

All I remember is seeing some highlights of him playing before he came to UofL. Didn't look that good. My opinion is he can't hack it in Div.1 ball.

I saw him shooting in pre-game warm ups before a couple of Cardinal games this year and the kid can barely shoot the ball. The only thing he has in his favor is his size. It does seem as if he has a good attitude though.
