Most big-time programs pay big-time players $100-$200 K to sign. That’s been the going rate for many, many years!

Probably higher in some cases. I'm just glad it is ALL getting exposed and hopefully cleaned up. It would be nice to have a clean slate for the game I grew up loving to play and watch. The playbook has indeed been uncovered and the FBI is hungry for a big win since they botched some high profile cases recently. College basketball is going to get beat down and any program who had top division 1 talent during the years being investigated is going to feel the beating.

It’s so widespread where does the NCAA even start? When you have mid majors implicated with the big boys it shows that the ole cliche is true.

Everyone is doing it.

Time retool the system. College football is probably next.

It becomes a wash and we start from scratch in the rule book. A lot of coaches will be out of jobs at the end of the season but I dont think programs get probation or anything from it. New rules will be written and hopefully shoe companies get taken out of it and in the end will be sued.

Unfortunately there is zero chance Duke, UNC or UK will lose a title over it. We were the whipping boy.
If it pans out to be true we should vacate all games played by Bam and Knox or anyone else who is implicated. I am just as tired of this BS as anyone. UNC should have already been penalized or you guys, Syracuse, and a few others let go with the NCAA making a statement that any other infraction going forward will be met with swift and harsh (death penalty) action. Further more, these sports companies should be punished with very stiff fines and prison time for second offenses. Nothing is being done to the ones who are making a ton of money out of all of this. Rant over.

Bring on the investigations NCAA. We, at least, deserve to be last. That should take another 10-15 years to investigate Bowen gate. Let's see how many of these teams "self-impose." They are morons if they do. Maybe, please, they will take Chuck Smrt off our hands. Man's name is even one letter short of Smart.

Not true the NCAA has a serious credibility issue IMO. They have no choice. If not the NCAA will fall apart to many schools involved
Good luck with that. The NCAA hasn't had any credibility in 50 years anyway. It is all about the money now and they are not giving up all the money they get from Nike.

Exactly right. This is a crisis for that organization on top of the Michigan State abuse case.

And before any animal dies, it fights like hell. All of that creates a giant unknown. The NCAA would like to find a giant "reset" button, but my guess is they won't...

This is a total system failure at the NCAA. Everyone knew recruiting was dirty. No one cared. Everyone involved in college basketball was/is part of the problem. That includes the University Presidents, Conference Commissioners, media, and the head coaches.

The biggest violators or contributors are the head coaches themselves. They fostered this system to protect themselves from NCAA penalties. All these coaches knew the system, and they knew the system violated NCAA rules. They didn't care about the rules, but they will howl I didn't know my staff wasn't involved etc. Rick knew the system, and he knew it well enough to know 5 star players don't fall into your lap. He choose to look the other way. I don't think he knew the details but he knew something was going on behind the scenes.

I believe the coaches when they say they didn't know about these individual meetings and loans. I don't believe any of them will say they are surprised. They never thought this day would come. Now the entire NCAA is on trial so to speak.

I agree with this. It defied logic that these top recruits would be turning down million dollar contracts overseas so they could play for free in college. The whole system has been a sham.

One other crazy piece is the contracts written for these coaches. I read this morning that even if he is fired with cause Sean Miller is still entitled to the majority of his contract. Likewise after the Powell stuff there were no changes to Pitino’s contract to further protect the university. The coaches have too much power.

I am shocked how these contracts with coaches are so one-sided considering the damage they can do to a program. The Universities are responsible for this mess too.

Agree. Just look how they punished Pitino. I’m pretty sure he was unaware, but according to the NCAA he’s the responsible party. So what do they do slap him on the wrist with 5 game suspension. Who do the punish 1) University with a hefty fine (Ok, fair) 2) Players who had nothing to do with it 3) The fans who also had nothing to do with it. So, yes the NCAA is in fact protecting the coaches; very strange. I should say head coaches.

Yes, the risk of playing these shady games is so much lower than the rewards

That can't be true. Supposedly U of L only wrote that type of contract...

The coaches are a product of the system which is ultimately driven by money which is driven by fan interest and sponsors. Coaches can demand big money because they bring in big money. Wind up with a corrupt one and it sets you back. The biggest threat to college sports is still the shoe companies mostly Nike, and ESPN and how the NCAA and the schools prostituted themselves to them.

I think all of the P5 schools should exit the obsolete NCAA and form a new organization for the P5 schools only.

That may be true but there’s a lot more schools then the top 10. If all the others see no penalties placed on the others than there could be serious issues. But you could be right we will see
