The coaching staff changed Lamar from who he was into a pocket passer, which he isn't.
Now he stands in the pocket till there is no where to run. What made the Ville so good last year was unpredictability. Lamar, if he saw an opening he would take off and usually for lots of yards, the defense had no clue what was coming. Now the Cards are very predictable.

Agree with this, have to take what the defense offers. Lamar has passed up (no pun intended) about 100-150 rushing yards in the first three games.

What they are doing with Lamar is the natural progression of the offense. The problem is that they haven't recruited or developed the complimentary pieces at other positions to make this next step work.

Clemson tried to do the same thing with Watson last year. Thus, the reason why Troy and NCState was too close for comfort. They wanted to take the read option away and make him more attractive to the NFL. Was an experiment gone bad. It looks like Petrino is trying the same thing.

IMHO, a lot of truth here. He is a very special athlete playing QB. He is improving as a pocket passer but his 100 MPH fast ball must be dead on target to be "catchable". JMO

Peace

I understand the handling of Lamar is not maximizing his talent to help UofL compete. My bigger concern with the offense is the refusal to call a play where the QB hands the ball off to the RB and the RB goes for tough yards.

This offense is a complete mess.

I have bad news for everyone. Dabo was laying in wait for LJ to run last night. He might have broke a few but it still would have looked like Houston and LSU or last night, to some degree. Until that O line develops it is what it is. And when that does and LJ has the ability to stay in the pocket we will be deadly. Unfortunately Clemson is a machine right now period.. And we're still developing. I think to many of us we're looking threw red colored glasses.

Unbiased opinion. I think he's scared to get him hurt and also preparing him for NFL for recruiting purposes. Just my opinion.

LJ is great, and he was completely underutilized. Very head scratching play calling offensively. Coaches have to face it. LJ is not going to win games with his arm. He is going to win games with his legs. He is a capable passer but that's about it, and it's only after honoring the threat of his legs that he can be successful throwing the football. But as great as he is, he is never, and I mean never, going to be the kind of player that can just sit back in the pocket and pick defenses apart. Not to mention asking our o-line to support that against that Clemson d-line was ludicrous. Asking LJ to be a pocket passer would be like asking Tom Brady or Peyton Manning to run the read option. Gotta play to your strengths!! As bad as the defensive play calling was in that game, the offensive play calling and game plan was just really really bad. like without the right words bad. really really really bad. bad coaching. bad.
