I was thinking the other day how we used to laugh at how bad the SEC men’s basketball conference was. It was like watching high school teams play where they only had one or two good teams. They had some of the worst coaches in college basketball.

Things have changed where the SEC has some of the best coaches and the ACC has some of the worst coaches. The road the ACC has traveled has ruined the ACC men’s basketball reputation. I guess it doesn’t matter though because it is all about football anyway, at least that is what everyone says.

The money certainly matters but oddly enough the last champion from theSEC was 2012 and the Big Ten was Maryland in 2002 when they were a member of the ACC.

Trends are cyclical. The ACC lost 4 hof coaches almost at once. Rebuilding that level of excellence takes time. The $EC has gotten better, but not necessarily related to football money. If that was the only factor, why hasn’t the B1G exploded into dominance? They have more money than the $EC.
